Because we asked so many people for help, I just wanted to let everyone know the info we had.

Andy headed off towards Altinkaya - got lost probably because of the road works - and unfortunately took a road that was a dead end onto a ravine. The last house before the ravine - belongs to the finance minister of cyprus - maybe they had a generator and andy saw the light - but tragically the road ends in a ravine. This part of the ravine is being landscaped - which really is why Andy was discovered.

God bless him - he was lost - and fell - but as his sister said - when we visited the spot today - it was peaceful...love goes out to Mo and her family now - everyone that knew Andrew - this really was his style! He always was the joker - We love you Andy - get the pub ready for us - when we arrive - show Alex how it should be done! Missing you heaps - and thanyou everyone for their help. xxxlibs

Thanks Libby. so very sad. I can't think where the road is, but I guess in the dark it might have been aany one of us. What is happening bout a funeral, as I am sure many would like to go to pay their respects and support Mo.

Mo is meeting with Harry Fellows of the Cemetry Committee tomorrow (Monday) to sort out the arrangements and we will let everyone know as soon as it is finalised.

Could I just personally thank everyone out there for their help, concern and kind thoughts over this trying period. It certainly made me proud to be part of this caring community.

God bless you Andy, have a drink for me.

I didnt know Andy but my sympathies go to his family - I hope they will in time take comfort from the fact he was a person who obviously attracted many friends and that he is now at peace.

Just a thought - has anyone thanked the Police and Army for their co-operation and the many members of the local community who demonstrated common humanity in their concern and efforts to help - not to mention the Volunteer Ambulance Service.?

Blue Chalk, i imagine, that falling into a ravine, and being unable to get out, coupled with the dire weather we've been having, hypothermia woould be a natural conclusion. I can't imagine how cold it must have been.

I have gotten lost in my own village many times when i'm out at night walking my dogs especially if there is a power outage, it's easily done.

Perhaps there is a lesson to be learned in this awful tragedy...never leave the house at night without a torch. Such a simple tool may save your life.

To Andy's family, may God grant you the strength to get through this dreadful time.

msg 13: "Perhaps there is a lesson to be learned in this awful tragedy...never leave the house at night without a torch. Such a simple tool may save your life"

But with all respects to Andy's family, without meaning to upset anyone, I must get off my chest the frustration and anger I have about the cyprus44 crowd's behaviour when noticed the post couple of days late!

Everyone took the easy way out by being in denial of the OBVIOUS. Every pampering poster liked/wished to believe "Andy is alive and well - wondering around or in some disused construction/house" whatever. No one even wanted to believe the more likely scenario, where he may have fallen into a ditch/ravine in darkness and probably fighting for his life!

Everyone running about sticking posters and printing fliers for a lost man? This is Girne for God's sake not New York or London! The lesson to be learned is more like "not to be naive and look for the obvious". I did say in my post then that: (continues)

"Everyone is acting as if nothing could have possibly happen to the man, when he could have tripped in darkness and fallen into a ravine, hurting himself in the process and becoming immobile!" That's when I suggested an aerial search would be more productive in locating a person in such a position. Those of you who may have read my post would remember the above. Subsequently it was suggested that a search operation by a helicopter and/or motor glider was planned - probably made impossible by the bad weather.

I am sure everyone acted in good faith but the lesson everyone should learn is that "sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind or even save a life!"

My apologies to anyone who feels upset because of what I have written but I had to get this off my chest, for I have not stopped saying "if only..." eversince I heard the bad news.

when you offer advice there is no compulsion for the person to whom it is offered to action it.

I can understand your sense of frustration but the people closest to the the search for Andrew did what they believed was the best at that time.

i am sorry to say this but |i think your comments are very badly timed and show no sensitity or understanding of the siutation in which they now find themselves.

Your postings and suggestions are no doubt well meant but please, for now, be quiet

I haven't commented on this tragid case anywhere, however, this being TRNC, if the road led to a dead end at the end of a ravine, there was probably no barrier, no lights, no cones, no red and white striped ribbons, no nothing. Just like holes in the roads left by builders or electricity workers. H and S is sad and ineffective and I'm amazed more accidents don't happen. Such a tragic waste of a life.

I actually saw someone 2 years ago, open their drivers door and fall straight into a 4ft deep hole in the road. H and S, what H & S??

Lets try and offer some pratical advice to prevent this happening to anybody else.

When out and about walking dogs or whatever, try to wear bright clothing....and then you are more likely to avoid road traffic accidents.

If you do take a tumble.... bright clothing helps people locate you.

A mobile phone is a must.

A torch, and my trusty walking pole never leaves my side

Life is precious....may all of you stay safe
