I have not much to add to my words in this thread, message 114: http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/49239.asp

3000 views of the subject in the thread and about 20 "observers" when it mattered and when many of you 'could' have been there to show solidarity. The Karşiyaka-5, the Amaranta-400+ and all the others - where were you?!

Here's a photographic report of an event too many of you ignored.

Paul, people living elsewhere and people with urgent other business are of course not included in my criticism. Sorry that I didn't make that clear, but I supposed it would be understood.

Being angry and very disappointed I started to use the Dutch word "oganisator" in the text on the pictures where I should have used "organiser" in the English language. My apologies.

Unfortunately Hans I think too many people are too scared to show their faces, which in my opinion is sadly how Northern Cyprus is being run of late, through fear, by the criminal element, they are wining.

I'm afraid its the same old story and who can blame folk. If the people that are directly affected by this cant be bothered to show why should others. You cant help folk that wont help themselves.

RE msg 10, racoonchic: (...) Dc maybe we had other things to do that couldn't be ignored .. its certainly not up to you to condemn or judge . (...)

=> "We" had other things to do? "WE", the THOUSANDS of foreigners in Northern Cyprus? I've read better excuses for apathy and lethargy in my life. And if you read my opinion (msg 114) as a judgement - you're right.

Personally I think criticism of the people who didn't attend is unfair and counter productive.

Perhaps the risk of potential violence or personal victimisation kept alot of people away.

Personally I was in the UK, people have their own reasons for not attending, what is clear is there is support for the cause.

If you can think of any other ways to harness the obvious support for this with.

Maybe you could start a facebook group Hans, if we could get enough people to join then am sure this would be as effective.

The media is the greatest tool you have against the bank and the laws.

I would be happy to publicise it on Lincguide.

Let me know what you think

RE msg 17, petez: (...) Personally I think criticism of the people who didn't attend is unfair and counter productive. (...)

=> We are both entitled to our opinion.

(...) Perhaps the risk of potential violence or personal victimisation kept alot of people away. (...)

=> TRNC foreign residents were allowed by the TRNC Police to be "observers", which everybody could have read in the texts by organiser Ismet Üstüner. What more "safety" did potential supporters and victims want?

(...) Maybe you could start a facebook group Hans (...)

=> Links to this Bulletin Board are already published on my personal Facebook page and shared with friends.

After yesterdays failure (my opinion) I don't feel exactly in the mood to help or support again victimised people - who stayed away from their own case.

Surely if those directly involved couldn't be bothered to turn up then others should not be blamed for lack of support, just my opinion.

RE msg 21, hattikins: Many more or less valid reasons for staying away can and will be given in this thread. Of course. But an analysis after the failure (my opinion) of the Vigil does not brush away the facts. The TRNC Government will not be impressed by the shown lack of solidarity in the foreign residents community (nor by the same lack of interest from the Cypriot Turks). And that is bad and sad.

Publicity in CT papers is good, but publicity with pictures of a very busy demonstration and a lot of "observers" had been much better.

Hans you are rıght and unforutnately you are also wastıng your breath. They know they are wrong but admit it = never/ NO one could have had more reason to be afraid than Pauline and believe me she was but did that stop her. You know the answer she was standing next to you

except of course when she was trying to shake off the secret service policeman glued to her side. Despite the threats\ she was there/ Of course she is only 65 and a woman.

I would be interested to hear where all of these sanctimonious people were when the big property scandals were going down 5 years ago?

I do not remember any support for the AGA ladies, AGA victims in general or any of the other big time scams in the Girne and Famagusta areas.

It seems to be a case of "It's ME in trouble now so you have to help ME"

Hans, thank you for caring for the victims, thank you too for pointing out the apathy that does appear to be rife in the expats in NC....

Bradus msg 7, you hit the nail on the head as have Birdy....

When those poor folks of Kulaksis 5 had their home auctioned and I put up a post that the expats were more interested in going for a beer, and couldn't care less, insults from certain members on 44 were soon flying!

We don't have a problem with our villa, but do not like the negativity of so many of our own peoples towards others..

Lets hope Elko will still help those that need his knowledge of the laws......those of you who could have gone, lets hope you don't want his views or help in the future ....

Paulıne has cared and canvassed for all the vıcıtıms here sınce she arrıved ın 2006 never realısıng that she was about to become one too very early on, but just thought ıt was a bad buıld, never found out about the mortgage untıl 2008. She lıaıses wıth ABAG and they trıed to synchronıse the Vıgıls. Her loyalty ıs to all Property scam vıcıtms, not just K5. So far Paulıne ıs the only one here who has been evıcted from her home,

yenibob I do not agree with all you say but do think it is a bit much for some (not you) to "demand" that all expats of whatever description turn out to support those unfortunate ones. I have been and will support them in my own way but will not be bullied into attending vigils/pseudo demonstrations, I just am not willing to do that. Also the interesting point is, where are all the people who SHOULD have been there? the affected ones? no most did want to have nothing to do with it for whatever reasons, so I hardly feel bad about it. Thanks for being realistic yenibob.

yenibob,

Pauline has done everything in her power to help all victims not just K5 and herself, selfish she certainly is not! and you accuse her of self pity, she has got off her backside and has been trying to help all victims, and certainly doesn't wallow in self pity!

I have been trying to raise the profile of Aga victims for years, I have stood at exhibitions, the TRNC offices in London, and twice at the Turkish Embassy, lost my husband through the stress of it all, and been ridiculed by other Aga victims for trying to get some justice, I think some victims fight in a different way, and more than likely think it beneath them to stand up and be counted, but in fact after all these years not one of us has gained anything which ever way we have turned! none of us are united, never have been and never will be, we now all want different things, life moves on!

But that will never mean I will give up! what all victims have had to deal with is fraud of the worse kind

It doesnt really matter what anyone esle thınks of us, self respect ıs everythıng and you have ıt ın spades.

Stıcks and stones, stıcks and stones. Stıll not sure about yenıbob, wıll keep dıggıng.

The reason the fraud has been allowed to contınue as we all know ıs some are up to theır elbows ın ıt. To poınt a fınger at anyone would be for them to stand ın front of the mırror. The battle wıll contınue.

For what it is worth my take on all of this is:

1: You are all wasting your time, If you think that the government is going to help then first of all they have not got the finances or the staff and they have more important issues that require sorting out. This government and the same as any previous government are treading water. It is only when there is a settlement that things will change but who knows whether it will be for better or worse. We could all end up loosing our homes so fighting the government now only serves to aggravate the governments attitude towards ex-pats.

2: Although a different subject but the same line of thought, a lot of people are becoming desensitised to the continual promotion of charities and the same is true about property problems. Although I sympathise and I have done my bit to help a few with property problems I now realise that I cannot and will not spend the rest of my life helping others at a cost to myself and my family.

AJ (mess 51)

1: I don't expect the TRNC government to help, but I do expect the Turkish Government to help! they have the finances, and they have the staff! a settlement of any kind will not come about until the TRNC Government address the corruption within the TRNC towards anyone of any nationality!

2: I can't comment about charities within the TRNC, because I don't know enough about them, but I do know that the property problems must be addressed, for any future of any kind for the Country, the fact that you and others are becoming desensitised is immaterial! and the last thing that I, as a victim would want, would be for you to spend your life helping us! you look after you family AJ because your family is paramount!

I was hearing from someone yesterday who actually did something positive to help prevent a property problem in the TRNC. He told a prospective buyer, brought by an estate agent to the house next door to him, that the villa had a mortgage on it. What I believe AJ is suggesting is that we keep telling people that there are property problems here until one government or other does something about it. New buyers are very sensitive to such information.

I was talking to a young couple ( customers yesterday.) They told me came here on holiday with a view to buying a property. After speaking to people they met along the way the agreed that it was too scary at the moment. They have been here 4 days. When will this government wake up and realise what is happening here.Im so very sorry I couldnt get to the vigil but the work has to come first for me now. We were to late finishing to get there.

1: Whether you like it or not the TRNC Government is relatively autonomous from the Turkisk Government. The TRNC submits budget proposals to Turkey and they either agree or disagree and once the TRNC receives that budget it uses it and has to satisfy Turkey that it has used the budget as agreed. Turkey has no real interest in anyone else apart CT's and mainlanders. It is also finding that supplying funding for the IPC is becoming increasingly onerous so with that and the annual budget afforded to the TRNC makes funding of anything else unlikely until there is a solution to the 'Cyprus Problem'

2:'the fact that you and others are becoming desensitised is immaterial!'

Why is it 'immaterial'? There are others of the likes of Marion Stokes that have achieved a lot more than anyone just by being sensible about the way her organisation do things.

Please do not get me wrong and I am aware of the hatred that is locked up in a lot of those that have suffered but I really think you all need to think of another way forward.

I attended as an observer and was disappointed for the effort Ismet and others had put into it.

I also appreciate many people may at this present time be somewhat wary of the system here as we are living in another country and have to abide by their laws regardless of what we think as we know what happens when we just upset them I know as I have been on the receiving end at times and realising I couldnot argue any further without someone of influence around me!

It was my choice and is my choice to support this cause getting somehwere with it is a differerant matter but people like Ismet obviousley do think it important.

If people dont want to support openly I can understand that too but for people to aim crtisism at Pauline etc for selfishness is beyond me Some may not agree with her candid openess some and most probably admire her but for whatever reason Ismet and many others are doing there best to maintain this in the public eye and I say thank you

You know what Lilli we came out again in the summer fully intending to buy as a second home for when we retire....it wasnt the people there that put us off, most people said be sure to do your homework, it was reading this forum when we got back that made us decide not to buy but to rent only, and to let out our house in the uk.....There is so much negativity on here relating to job prospects, housing, legal issues etc that members are doing a grand job in making sure not more people make the move......

Shrimp (mess59)

I know you addressed your message to Lilli, but I am so glad you are renting, the negativity it real, and the reasons for it are obvious, just rent for a while, be comfortable that you won't lose what you have worked for, and enjoy in the knowledge you are secure, when and if you decide to buy please be very careful, may I wish you a happy retirement, I wish I knew then (7 years ago) what I know now :-(

not sure from your posting if youre pleased with the members on this forum doing a grand job or not but if you think the negativity is making people not make mistakes then long may it continue.

I really wish I had the knowledge Ive gained since being here re jobs houses legal system etc as thats how many of us can give the advice. Many have been lucky and no problems but the ones that havent are only trying to inform people of not just pitfalls but of serious situations when you can loose everything it is not necessarily to put them off making the move to live here just to be very very cautious

the reason it is more difficult here is that there is no avenue of redress in Northern cyprus which many thought there was only to be mistaken at a very high cost financially and health wise.

TRNCvictim and honestie

My very first posting on here was" if you knew then what you know now, would you still have moved to Northern Cyprus"'......and in so many words this is what you have both answered.....hopefully one day things will change and we can buy our long dreamed about villa in the sun, but for now we will be content renting and just enjoying life taking one step at a time.....x

Lilli, thank you too! I was born in Nicosia, and bought up in Kyrenia and famagusta.....I have so many happy memories of life there as a child and have had so many holidays with my family, my children and latterly with just my husband. Nothing will put me off N. Cyprus as a place to live, but through this forum and remarks good and bad we have decided to rent for the time being....so yes you right through this forum we have come to our own conclusions and I should say thank you to everyone on here for helping us to come to this decision......I will email you when we have fulfilled our wish and are living there full time....... I hope your new four legged friend is soon re-united with his owner xx

None whatsoever.

Pauline has tried to get her laptop back. Told today that they will keep it until they prosecute her and use it as evidence. Despite telling her she could have it back when they obtained the evidence they needed from it,

When she applied for it in writing in English she was told she would need to apply in Turkish and then give a reason why she wanted it back. She did this. Now they are saying she cannot have it back because of a pending prosecution. Mind games and then some.

DO YOU THINK SHE WILL EVER GET IT BACK??

First her villa, now her laptop, what next - her life?

Well, the government might not take any notice of the the vigil, or by the plight of Kulaksiz 5 and the rest......but foreign press do.

I read about the Akfinans (&Kulaksiz 5) in the Scandinavian press earlier this year:

http://www.ipb-magazine.com/nb/articles/boligeiere-i-sjokk-–-hjemmene-solgt-på-auksjon

..headline translated: "Home-owners in shock ---their homes sold on auction"

.. it tells about how the debt grew (directly translated): "...2.000.000 TL (about 8,8 mill kr), a debt which in any civilized society would be seen for what it is, namely pure fraud."

Earlier this year, when I was shown around by estate agents in NC, they told me that the English buyers had "vanished" from the marked...however, they assured me that was "not a problem"....as Scandinavian and Russian buyers had come in instead.

But I can assure you; a few more articles like the one above...and there will be not many more potential Scandinavian buyers coming.

Perhaps pursue the 'Reuters' route, as this is the source from where much of the global press obtains its material.

I think I will start a fresh thread about Sea Terra Reserve because it has nothing to do with the vigil.

I prepared a speech and will record a video on CD and send a copy to all the MPs very soon. I am waiting for parliament to pass the budget before I do so. They are too busy at the moment to consider anythging else.
