From Cyprus info site..

"SEWERAGE PLANT - AGREEMENT

Mayor of Nicosia Eleni Mavrou and so-called mayor of the Turkish

occupied part of Nicosia Cemal Bulutoglulari signed an agreement on

Friday for the construction of a new sewerage treatment plant in Mia

Milia, a village in the Turkish occupied areas.

Mavrou told CNA that the agreement provides for the procedure for the

construction of the plant, the cost, the sharing of the sum and

management.

She added that the project will replace the existing plant in Mia Milia

and the total cost of its replacement will reach about 30 million

euros.

The new sewerage treatment plant will serve 200,000 people in the

government controlled areas of the Republic."

Hi Cronos re msg 3

I *did* say it is from a GC info site.. a it is all about Semantics .. if the "TRNC" doesn't exist, legally, in the eyes of the world - outside TR, then the GCs can't respect titles..

Yep.. listening to GC TV news still sounds like Soviet English..:(

"still an underlying problem with acceptance isn't there?".. I'm sure I could put out that works both ways....

Phone codes - TURKEY ..mail if you hope to get it, Mersin 10 TURKEY .. no Direct flights... can you accept WHY that is... ?

Refering to the mayor as "so called" highlights a paradox that is typically GC in nature. If they don't recognise him, how can they come to an agreement with him? If he isn't the mayor, who is he and does he have the authority to come to an agreement with?

As far as I was aware the Turkish Cypriot Municipality of Nicosia along with the TC Chamber of Commerce were recognised by the GCs as they were in existence since before the split, so no need for the "so-called" nonsense.

Being an ex employee of Slough Corporation (sanitary department) I managed to get a look at the plans late last week at the Lefkosa department of Health. On close inspection the processing plant is located in the GC side, where it is linked to over 5000 homes and businesses. The waste from these properties is then pumped at a very high pressure through a new 600mm pipe already installed under the green line to vast holding reserviour in the North part of Lefkosa.

From what I can ascertain from talking to officials, this tank will be emptied on an irregular basis by Mehmit and his brother though the exact destination of such waste has not yet been established. Watch this space.

At least common sense occasionally applies even in Cyprus to cooperate on projects of mutual benefit. Would be good to see at lot more such cooperation.
