My husband and I are both keen gardeners and we love growing our own fruit and veg. We have been very successful growing usual salad and green vegetables and things which you can find quite easily in N/C. However, we want to try our hand at more unusual 'British' fruit and veg such as parsnips, swede, rhubarb, etc. Has anyone successfully grown any of these things and do you have any tips?

If you happen to pass the Five Fingers Restaurant in Ozankoy, pop in and mention that you would like some advice on gardening. There is a contingent that frequent the place that may be able to offer good Veg advice.

Also, if you run a search this site there are many related posts or people whom you may contact.

I doubt you would have much difficulty as the earth is well drained and loose so quite suitable for root veg. The local spuds taste great.

Try Papayas.

The trees are attractive and the fruit we get during Nov and Dec are much better than the variety you get in Sainsburys.

unless you have a well which is full all year around it is not a viable idea.

Thanks for all the advice. We have got a well with plenty of water, so that is not a problem and we have got areas of shade/sun and a small green house. Just not sure whether it is possible to grow everything due to soil type etc

the gardeners forum meets the first thursday every month. ıt was set up at the 5 fingers ozanköy, but the meetings are held at various different places. ıf you are interested email alex - alex.main@sunnycyprus.net and he will pass on relevant details. perhaps you'll have some produce ready for the 2nd ozanköy flower show - 2\3rd may. the gardeners forum is relaxed and informal a great place to meet like minded people.
