I am retiling my real fire fireplace. It does use a dog/iron basket. Does anyone have any experience using regular kitchen/bathroom tiles in an open fire environment? Just that I have a bunch of them leftover and don’t really want to go and buy double fired tiles if these will suffice. Sir Skogs

Cheers Cooper I will see if anyone else has had their own experience and go from there. I may just use what I have anyway and see what happens. If they do bust then I'll just knock 'em off and go buy the expensive tiles. Nice winter jobs. Or use little logs to keep the heat down......... Sir Skogsy

skogs you should also use the fire cement with them, i don't think the usual addesive is any good as you have an open fire. ask at the builders shop regarding which tiles are suitable, probably like the old flooring terracota type stuff we have in the uk. we have used these before and they were fine.
