Though I've had some good advice (and some laughs) from this website, I read somewhere that expats meet up on a Friday night somewhere in Kyrenia. Does anyone know where this is? We are coming out in September and I thought this would be a good opportunity to meet people and seek more advice, any thoughts?

Also, have been in contact with Unwins estate agents, has there been a Brit take-over there as they all seem to have British names? This didn't seem to be the case a couple of years ago, when I first contacted them.

Yes I did say a couple of years ago, couldn't do anything back then as hubby doesn't retire until 2008 more's the pity!!

Hi Boofey, you might mean the Grapevine which is in Girne (Kyrenia) up the road from The Colony hotel. Or The Courtyard, run by Mo, is a place where lots of Brits meet, this is in Karakum/Ozankoy on the main road out of Girne.

Also, Rafters I think, but never been there myself.

Unwins has expanded now. You were probably in tough with Hayran and/or Ayse previously, but yes they have more young Brits working for them now. They also have an office in Girne itself now.

Thanks Supergran - if you're around on the 7th Sept, come and share a drink with us - depending on what pub we end up at - might make a night of it and go to all 3!

Keep clear of Unwins, and the Friday Carpenters market. The bastard who runs it is rude and arrogant and will rip you off.
