We have just watched the movie - Sicko - and although not surprised with some of the stuff it really makes you think. Sicko is by the American director/writer Michael Moore and is about the health care system (or not) in the USA. Previous movies include Bowling for Columbine. Mr Moore is quite left wing in his preaching but what you see here is people dying because ot the way that the American system of insurable health works. Quite fascinating how he draws in the UK and French systems of health care provision compared to that in USA where unless you have money you get not a lot. One insurance company has 37 pages of complaints where they are not insured if pre existing!!!! A case drawn on was that of a person injured in a car accident and taken to hospital by Emergency Ambulance. the insurance company turned down the claim for ambulance transfer because they did no phone and get clearance first!¬!!!! Check it out and think how lucky we are!!!

i'm not going to say that the american health system is the best, but i live in the US and that guy is a joke. any person can go to a "county" hospital a get free treatment if you don't have the money. you should see the amount of tax payers money to goes to treat people that don't want to work. the people that do get hurt by the system is the working single parent or the minimum wage worker who can't afford to buy insurance. now here in the US the insurance companies are the ones you have to fight and most of the time if you yell loud enough you will get your way. Some of the doctors and pharmaceutical companies push the "NAME BRAND DRUGS" but you can buy the generic med for $4.00. we are lucky that we get to see whatever doctor we want and i don't have to wait till they can see me.

hi cyprusishome, sounds a little like our experiences with the post office holiday insurance in the uk. they wouldn't pay out because we weren't able to contact them when hubby was ill whilst on holiday in turkey.
