hi i am coming out to inspect my apartment at sea terra bay jan19th.

(i am flying to larnaca hiring a car and driving to kyrenia. looking for furniture while here.)

as for above sentance in brackets i have read posts on this site about doing these things with interest.

i build houses for living and do 90% of the work myself very satisfying when i complete a project and i only answer to myself and the wife of course.

i suppose buying from ikea in the south and taking the furniture to the north

would be a problem ?

will stop here so as not to write an essay so a big hello to you all

Hi hammer - I too am a new member!

I have brought on turquoise bay and my furniture is on its way fom the uk - but my parents who have an apartment on sea terra marina brought all their furniture out there. Olguns do quite good packages and toros are also reasonable with getting tables etc made to spec. They are out there at the moment and have mentioned there are some good sales on at the moment!

I have heard that if you buy from the south you can get charged heavily in taxes etc but you would need to get this clarified!

Hope you have a great trip and good xmas

Monkey you are right you can only buy a limited amount £130 from the south before you are heavily taxed. It's not really worth it as I feel that you can, if you shop around, get everything you need in the north for similar prices. Olguns are excellent and many of the shops that sell furniture packages are flexible so you can mix and match and then negotiate a price.

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Welcome to the forum hammer why would you want to buy in the south ? when you have so much choice in the north . and by buying in nc you will be supporting the economy i bought all mine from torros in lefkosa , also while i'm there i only buy local food i never touch anything imported, just a silly little thing really but i do try to do my bit to support the country ,have a good day,

regards simbas

thanks for all the replies and welcomes. good point from simbas will support local economy and check all the above mentioned stores. The wife loves ikea that was the only reason i mentioned shopping in south. i didnt mention that i was from Aylesbury, England.

Is the site mainly a mixture of people from north cyprus and england. anyone from somewhere else in the world ?

nice to get a feel of who you all are

hi hammer ,yeh thats true , but you know i have'nt been shopping in mk for over a year , i just can't be bothered going round and round looking for a parking space , where as i used to shop until i dropped , not the case any more , i'm all shopped out so it does'nt matter .but i still go to mk about 3 times a week . as all our friends are there , but on occasions i do go to aylesbury but mostly i use berkhampstead or hemel hempstead , yes , the tappas bar is very good there's also a swish new pub / bistro called the akerman in akeman st that is very very nice food of excellent quality , you must try it

My wife and I regret not shipping out furniture etc from the UK for our apartment in Girne. Found UK prices far below that of NC even taking into account shipping costs. Try Dolphin Movers, we have found them excellant. Another option is buying at auction. Look at Iain's Auction at http://www.cypyp.com/amandas
