This week the internet connection has been on/off/off/off/on/off/on???? When it is on most of time I can only access home pages then go no further. Extend say that there is a 'general problem' and they are working on it. Taking some time working on it! A friend has said that this is because the government has took away the provider for Alsancak? Does anyone know anything or am I paying for an internet connection that is off more than on these days?

If you have a phone line, go for ADSL. It's better than wireless (for most).

AndyP - what do you recommend?

Hi mishmash

This is the e-mail I received from my Extend agents (Arriva Limited).

'Hi Everyone,

Just to let you know that the internet remains patchy at the moment.

This is because new equipment is being installed in Lefkosa to prevent Denial of Service attacks. Until this installation is completely finished the internet and service will be affected.' end quote.

I am also in Alsancak and believe me it is not about the 'Government taking away the provider for Alsancak' although there are issues in other areas in relation to Extend and Nethouse (Guzelyurt and the Karpaz) but if you subscribe to the Cyprus Observer then the bottom of the front page will explain.

Why do you use Arriva as eXtends' agent, and not go direct?

Thanks

This would be better as a PM, when it arrives!

When I try to phone the extend help line as soon as I press 9 to go to English the phone ends the call! Roll on August and I shall go to either Turksell or Telsim 3G system. As they say "vote with your feet"

A recent quote from extend - stated that they had been 'hacked into' - someone got passed their firewall. Makes you wonder if they got any customer details...?

Hi I live in Girne, and I have been having trouble with extend for the whole week its been off more than on, even their help desk are not answering the phones, when you eventually get through they just say there is a problem and have to be patient with them, but they never take a week off your payment when you go to pay even though you cant use the Internet.

We use Bortec as well and apart from the odd problem which is sorted quickly we have a good service..I would recommend them, not the cheapest but you get what you pay for.

On the 23rd Jan, the government disconnected all the wireless connections to their masts i.e. the BRT mast, Kantara Castle etc. This is some dispute which has been going on for a while but the wireless providers were given no notice. The issue is now before the courts. People like Bortec, who give a good service, have been running around installing new equipment to help their customers who were affected by this. The likes of Extend will, no doubt, just be doing what they do best - not answering their phones!

What is interesting there has been no SMS this end of month from extend reminding you to pay your bill.

Maybe they will be giving free access until they sort out thier problems

Hi pinkchilli

I pay my Extend subscriptions through Arriva (used to be The Internet Club) and as such can use them as my first port of call in the event of any problems. If nothing else they always answer phones calls and e-mails promptly and I get text messages warning me of any up and coming problems or explaining existing problems.

We were with Bortec untill this top-of-the-mountain-government-action-thing took effect, now even with the box on a 6ft pole they can't get a signal, so he's given me my money back.

Have gone with Turkcells 3G, no time waiting for installation, no boxes, wires, not confined to having the laptop in the office and no problem with power cuts. It can be a bit slow on an evening, but great so far.

i'm with Bortec too - no probs in 12 months odd use.

Mess 15 - sums Bortec up - if they can't provide a good service, they'd rather give you your money back than have you un-happy.

Have reccomended them to at least 10 friends, all of whom are happy with the service.

Cannot see why anyone would want to put up with Extend's service when there are companies like Bortec around.
