Life on Mars?

I'm interested in astronomy and in particular, the planet Mars.



There is an excellent gallery of high resolution pictures taken of the Martian surface on the European Space Agency website. The link is

Among the photographs I have downloaded is one of the Hale crater, this is a crater roughly 150 to 125 kilometers across with a central outcrop of hills. Here is the link to the photo in the gallery

I darkened it, increased the contrast and then magnified the area below and to the left of the central hills.

To my surprise, I can make out the remains of structures, roads and regular features. There is something there that can't be explained, can you. Lem

Incidently Lem, because Cyprus is nearer the equator,there are some stars below Orion that are not visible from England. Any star maps over there.



Also itshould be better for seeing meteor showers - any advice on these,and any other interesting info? My son was at Akriotiri base a couple of years ago,and just about saw the full eclipse . cheers,Steve

Could you please explain what the circled images are from left to right.



Structure with 5 rows, lower two shorter ending in an enclosed square. Three square adjacent shapes with an X shaped object on the right. Circular symetrical shape with cross lines through it. Another shape consisting of 4 square shapes. Five symetrical circular shapes in perfect formation.

Nothing like the Isle of Wight, I'm afraid.



Curious that no-one yet has actually tried to download the original and are relying on my scanned copy blow up to dismiss my observations, if they did and scanned further to the left of the photo, they would see lots of other structures in that area that do not appear natural.

I've just used the Brightness and Contrast controls as well as Sharpen in Adobe Photoshop.



Having said that, I used Microsoft Photo Editor at work to put the same image through a colour filter, this was the result,

It looks like a whole city down there. Try saving the image and magnifying it.



Not only that, I accessed another image, ran it through the filters and have had a look at the smaller crater below Hale. Try downloading the image and magnifying around the smaller crater and surroundings. Here's the link,

I don't know where the alcohol connection comes in, maybe my avatar gives the wrong message, but perhaps a little imagination might not go amiss.



Are there not enought TRNC threads on this BB to satisfy you? I'm sorry, I thought this BB was for general interest and discussion amongst those who had a residence in the TRNC.



Sorry if this subject made you sad, perhaps it was a little stretching, but there are worlds outside this one and outside of the TRNC.



I've got a life, thanks, and interests, and imagination. Perhaps you'd like to post a thread that draws some interest and comment from other members.



I'd be happy to contribute to it if it drew my interest, and I'm sure you have lots of ideas to give us inspiration.
