We can get a holiday package cheaper than flights at Easter - either at Ayia Napa or Protaras. As it is a night flight we would stay overnight in hotel, have breakfast and head up to Esentepe the next day. We will hire a southern car as usual (with the drawbacks). Which would be the easiest travel option? Directions would be great.

Do you know another option could be stay in Ayia Napa and get the bus back to the border and get a hire car from the North. I did it, bus leaves Ayia Napa (think the same bus goes to Protaras) at 8am and drops you within easy waliking distance to the border only 15 Euros return. Just a suggestion.

Protaras is closer to border, probably more open in Ayia Napa. From Protaras head for Paralimni, main road (lots of shops) through to Deryneia, cobbled street, straight through traffic lights on to Frenaros. When you get to this village, look for turning to right marked Vysoulious (not the right spelling), just after left turn to Sotira. Carry on this road to end, T-junction, turn right, go through camp over couple of roundabouts to border. Through border carry straight on til you come to roundabout with new car showroom on right next to small supermarket, turn left and just carry on over roundabouts til you get to big one, left turn onto dualcarriage way, carry on until roundabout, right turn over mountains, marked Girne. There is a quicker way if anyone knows it, at big roundabout at Famagusta you turn left towards Bogaz, and eventually come out on new bypass near Tatlisu. From Paralimni approx 15 mins to border, then approx 1.25 hour when over border.
