The dishes are the size you see everywhere and also that my neighbour has for Digiturk - about 1 meter diameter (I'm not going on the roof to measure them exactly).

My receiver is Taplin but its 2 years old and I know they use a different one now.

..as some of these channels are PAY channels ( .eg. BBC Prime) which DOES require a subscription card - then how come you don't you need a card, if the system is "legal"?

The only way around not paying to get BBC PRIME is via a receiver that WILL need upgrading or via the internet ( card sharing)

'mmmm' - after your post on TRNC Villa Owners, I spoke about your concern to Uran. I understand the following:-

The licence data is transmitted via the 'third' dish over Uran's private satellite channel. They pay a lot for their licences (thus $200 per annum to the user). Uran have thousands of customers here and in the south which is why there are a lot of licensed Greek channels on the service.

Like Digiturk et. al. they have created a mix of channels which would otherwise each require separate cards and they negotiate licence discounts for group usage. Because Uran don't use cards, their operation is cheaper and they can be more flexible about changing the channels offered.

Uran also has subsidiaries in Turkey and Russia, maybe in other countries, and I don't think such a large operation would survive so openly if illegal. Also I am sure that the satellite operators would have banned this 'licence' channel long ago if it upset their major channel operators.

Dear JJ re msg 6

I'm afraid my stance is unchanged.. Subscription CARDS are the only way Showtime , Digiturk, Nova, etc work.. they DO NOT permit their decryption code to be broadcast OTA ( over the air ) via the net, Satellite, or software on a receiver.

Eastern Europe ( beyond the Criminal penalties of the EU , for such practices) has the WORST record for non observance of copyright protected Satellite broadcast hacking.

If you don't believe me I can put you in contact with the anti-piracy depts at DigiTurk or Showtime or Sky or the BBC..

May be you wish to contact Irdeto - who handle the encyption of Nova, DigiTurk, Showtime, etc. ?

Your source is not being frank with you. They are card sharing. The setup will only work as long as the cards *can* be shared - and SKY and the above companies I mentioned are taking action to make the CLIENTS viewing experience as "miserable" as possible - to persuade them to pay them - not an illegal hacker... cont)

The card sharing gangs have been SO successful, that they have gained the *appearance* of legitimacy - so much so the pat tv companies MUST act or go out of biz..

There will be a rash of new subscriber cards issued, followed by an upgrade to the encryption process which will make card sharing MUCH harder.

Simple rule.. If you are subscribing to pay tv and DON'T use a card - chances are you are lining the Pirates pocket and if / when you lose your TV channels, DON't accept any excuses..

OK as JJ hasn't reverted I'll give him some FACTS..

The company he mentions is sending the card sharing info via an uplink and it is being broadcast by a satellite owned by a company in Paris

The Company has now received reports from anti -piracy specialists at Nova , Showtime, etc..

They know HOW the operation is working and know that it is hard to stop the uplinking from "TRNC" .. it is NOT "legit" as JJ would have you believe..

As the bird ( satellite) is owned by a an EU organisation that has legit PAYING clients ( Nova for example) and the "TRNC" company is using a data stream to send the decryption signal from that bird, expect to find you will start getting insert card messages when the legal boys prove to the data providers what is going on and a piece of software to monitor the type of traffic card sharing data contains is implemented.

You heard it here, first..

I have not tried to persuade anybody that the operation is legitimate - I don't know.

You commented on my original message and in consequence I questioned the company and then reported their response in a second post. You then responded with a tirade which I have not challenged because clearly you are an expert - as on everything else.

You will also please note that in response to other threads I have not promoted Uran but referred people to my original message so that they will see your comments and can then decide for themselves.

I was simply attempting to share information - a mistake I will try not to repeat.

to be honest unless you watch tv all the time, why would you spend so much on a system.

we never even watch tv in the summer.

maybe more people neeed to turn off the tv and get out in the fresh air and enjoy cyprus.

Ataturk re msg 13

NEWSFLASH.. I was a Director of a pay tv channel and a member of an pay-tv-anti-piracy group.

"Policeman"? More like "game-keeper"..

My motives are simple.. I know what is going on and I don't want to see folk giving their precious dosh to "pirates" who will "disappear" as soon as the decrypted signal is turned off...

There won't BE any channels to watch if the level of piracy continues... the Piracy has got too successful - the business model for pay tv "sucks", if folk can it it for free. Piracy has got to the level where we even have posters believing their service is "legit" ....

Not really sure WHERE I live has anything to do with it... theft is theft, isn't it?!

Exactly mate was, your not anymore so stop acting like a wanna be copper and chill out mate. There are thousands of people who are getting a perfectly good service through card sharing schemes. You cant do anything about here mate. So concentrate on the greek side where maybe you can waffle the greeks wıth your bulls**t.

You sound like a proper jobsworth mate. Was you bullied as a kid cos you got a serious chip on your shoulder.

I bought a D Smart box (Gold Master) a year or so ago, secondhand for £80 (one off payment) with dishes already in place and have yet to encounter a problem. Plenty of English channels to choose from.
