Hi everyone, just seen Rory Bremner tracing his family roots - good stuff. Anyone done any tracing of ancestors - any skeletons/interesting stories uncovered? Anyone related to colonial brits/cypriots? Not had time to research my own family tree, but my grandad was gassed at Ypres in 1915,but I was too young to get details from him. I found a book he had to confirm that his dad knew General Scarlett - former MP for Burnley. People have heard of the Charge of the Light Brigade in the Crimea War - General Scarlett led the successful part of the day that is never mentioned - the Charge of the Heavy Brigade. cheers,Steve

RE msg 2, cronos : (...) I'm descended from Richard The Lionheart and am trying to reclaim the whole of Cyprus for myself ! (...) ===> Rubbish! Richard sold Cyprus first to the Templars and when these knights couldn't control the unruly Cyprus population, he sold the Island to his French vassal, the ex-king of Jerusalem, Guy de Lusignan -- including the kocan... So, too bad for you, but no way!

Dear Kathryn, My grandad was Richard Hargreaves, born in Burnley about 1890,weaver by trade (hence deaf). He had loads of WW1 postcards in his sideboard, silks, bomb craters,McGill comics - these were thown away by my stepgrandmother when he died - what a shame. I was only about 14 when he died,so I had no say in the matter. About 30 years later I called in the County Museums Officer to clear out a property that looked like something out of the 1930/40's - old dear had never thrown anything away - putties,1WW bandages,GV coins, tin hats etc - you can see some in Co Regimental Museum in Preston.cheers,Steve

I did some research a while back & my Auntie in Bermuda sent me some documents showing my Great, Great Grandfather taking possesion of 2 slaves from a ship that had sailed from Liverpool. Funny how things turn around as my English paternal Grandfather married a black Bermudian lol
