After reading an earlier thread it seems that all moderators have access to all members email addresses.

I withheld my address as I am cautious and didn't want any security issues.

Are other members concerned, or am I being paranoid?

Paranoid.

Internet security is a serious subject, but your concerns seem to be with the moderators knowing your email address.

What do you think they will do with it?

If you are so concerned, change your email address....quick,free and easy.

I think they would get in to trouble if the used your email for there own purpose , I'm quiet sure they wouldn't abuse this.

I do hope so. The mail address I used is also one of my business addresses.

Go to Hotmail, Ymail etc and set up a new email address purely for this site or other similar sites. That way if you decide you don't want to be a part of this anymore or you get bombarded with spam you can just ditch your spare email account.

Thank you Donty.

Good advice.

I wasn't aware when I joined this site that so many people would have access to my information.

Good advice DONTY, I'm sure it's not necessary, but if it makes you feel better do it Val.

For God's sake, it's your email address, not your credit card information.

Should I put a note in the forum rules that although you can hide your email address from members, a few forum admins will still see it?

Val...bit silly to use a business email address on a public forum irrespective of who has access to it....particularly if security is a worry for you

Hi Val , i hear what you say , i don't know the contents of the e-mail sent to you , but if it was sent off board i imagine it was of a delicate nature , and it was sent to you out of courtesey rather than post it publically on the forum . but still i imagine it could have been very embarrasing for you , if someone else read it . By the way all members , not just a few , have access to all the mods e-mail addresses and so they too are wide open to possible abuse from more than just a few . In hindsight , it may have been prudent if you felt that strongly about possible abuse of usage of your e-mail addess , to have attached a note saying that you did'nt want to be contacted by that e-mail address . i'm sure people would have respected that .

Kind regards , Simbas

For those of you who are worried about privacy on this BB, i wouldn't be, although i cannot account for 'abuse'

I am more concerned, about having an email address linked to either gmail, ebay, MSN or skype. If you read the user agreement (after 2007) you signed up to, you will see that as these are based/owned by US companies, and as such, they now are subject to disclosure under the agreement with US Homeland Security (although its not overly clear about this). So i am careful what is included in the subject matter.

I also understand that the UK is going to sign up to this agreement in the near future. To what degree i do not know yet.

Common courtesy (and common sense) should indicate that personal attacks/abuse should not appear on bulletin boards, and if you are concerned over privacy, you can buy encpryption programs which allows you a degree of privacy with selected recipients.

So don't get paranoid, just be careful and use the spam/filters and privacy options prov

VAl44 delete yourself and don't give a business email out in the first place - for goodness sake mountains mole hills it doesn't take much to work out - of course they hold your email address because if they wnat to warn you of your conduct privately then how would they do it !

Morale of the story don't give out personal details you don't want others to use simple!

have a good day

I think you have taken it too far. It's not about hiding from governments, I for one aren't planning any terrrorist activity at the moment. It is about using your normal email address on places such as this where canny business people could reap lots of targeted email addresses.

Think about it. a TRNC estate agent or pool cleaning company could easily come to this site, copy the addresses and put you on their marketing mailing list as most everyone here has an interest in North Cyprus. Also anyone anti TRNC could take your address and (for example) send you hate mail. So if you use a seperate email address for forums etc, when the spam gets too much for you just ditch it.

Oh and I would rather not have to set up spam filters for various sentences, words etc as its too time consuming in my opinion.

I take your point, and perhaps your comments highlights the problems to others. My intention was point out about making use of the facilities/information provided by sites to protect yourself.

If a moderater (or you) objects to this posting i have no objection to having it removed
