Little Nige posted that "Cabbie" had been banned - As a matter of interest, i looked on Cabbie's profile to look at his pervious posts and low and behold: "Taxi Share? There is also that chap Retiredtocyprus@hotmail.com Large estate car seats 4 + loads of splace for luggage + golf clubs." Sounds like Littlenige and Cabbie are one and the same. Didn't mention about the lack of legimate insurance though... Nick

There is no problem with anyone running a business, just so long as they have a work permit and pay their due taxes, anything less is dishonest and shows disrespect to their adopted country.

mess 42 - Becks, not stiring up, just telling folk the facts - lets say you use Nige, assuming him to be legit - then he crashes and injures you and yours and you find that he's unisured - would you be happy ? There is a reason that taxi insurance is much higher than normal car insurance. My concern was that Nige has been stating that his insurers were aware he was doing airport and shopping runs and were covering him for taxi work, which isn't true. Nick

Nick of course the other concern is whether the particular person plying their trade has a work permit and pay's his/hers taxes because anyone working on the black market just might find that their insurance is null and void in the event of an accident. AJ

I SHALL NOT COMMENT ON THE SPURIOUS lest it be said much raking and some members on here go hand in hand. I will ask a question through........... If your legit trnc cabbie has the same accident in the south as you allude to with his 3rd party insurance where do you stand? Which is the bigger risk a nice steady eddie drive from here to larnaca or paphos or a white knuckle ride jumping red lights and driving at 130 km per hour all over the road. The choice is yours.

Mess 46... Nige, What planet are you on ? My point is that you were touting for "taxi" business and you ain't a legit taxi, then when challenged, you then had the front to say that you were "fully insured and your insurers were aware that you were aware of what you are doing". This simply is not true. You may be a nice steady Eddie, but that won't cut any ice if you have a crash and the occupants of your car are seriously injured, or worse. You'll be in the nick and your passengers won't get any conpensation, because your private car insurance will be VOID..... Nick

The TRNC are endeavouring to protect the jobs of its own people by having a work permit system in place. Work permits are unlikely to be issued to foreign immigrants unless for a job that cannot be done by a TC. This is something we should do in the UK to protect British jobs. Nige if the above statements are true, you are cheating legitimate TC Taxi drivers who are paying their dues and are struggling for work in this economic climate.

Dear Batterboy58 When the TCs join in with the rest of their Cypriot cousins in the EU work permits will be a thing of the past... ExPats can work in the RoC or set up their own biz, or be self-employed and get medical care. So, the same works t'other way for the UK.. when the economy was "booming" folk were pleased to find a Polish builder who would do a good job for less money... Now the UK is in recession we hear cries for "protectionism".. this insularity will be the best way to KEEP the UK in recession. We are in the EU club, and it is our biggest export market... to suggest "protecting UK jobs"... Well, if they do that to us too, who will we SELL to...?. :(

mmmmmm When the TCs join in with the rest of their Cypriot cousins in the EU work permits will be a thing of the past... This is not the case at present, and the TCs have to do whats best for their own people to counter the embargoes and attempts to stifle their economy. What I am saying about the UK is not about the EU as such, more about the continual flood of illegal immigrants that are allowed in to sponge of our system. This is not the case in NC and you rightly have to show that you have the means to support yourself and will not be a burden on their already stretched society. Surely this must be only fair, and anyone who is working illegally is stealing from the TCs.

Dear Batterboy58 "This is not the case at present, and the TCs have to do whats best for their own people to counter the embargoes and attempts to stifle their economy. " Technically, it IS.. Nige is an EU citizen living in Cyprus..if he is working in the "South" - as do TCs - he is free to work - he does NOT require a work permit - in the same way a Cypriot is welcome in the UK. Of course he should have adequate cover re insurance, etc... Re the UK, thanks for clearing up you meant illegal workers.. the fines for employing them are HUGE - GBP 10K - per employee, and as my Wife and step-son have found, most employers are VERY careful to make sure they don't employ "illegals"... there are enough legal workers desperate for a job - why risk a fine / prison ?!

10k is hardly huge if you take into consideration the costs of paying the illegal is minimum at slave labour rates and if you have him/her on the books for some time then quickly you are in the profit zone regardless of being caught.

Dear Notthereyet re 54 The min wage is c.£6/hour say.. £12k a year.. Most illegal immigrants won't work for £2k / year... and remember it's 10K GBP per employee... and possible imprisonment..
