Why I like it in Northern Cyprus - shall we give every poster 20 words? OK, here's my starting contribution (and I'll follow up this first posting!):

In 10-15 minutes from where I live (Yesiltepe) I find impressing nature, history and - nearby - nice people and wonderful food.

Lilli, that was more than 20 words and you NEVER mentioned a delicatessan?

I like NC because when I listen to the UK weather/traffic, it always makes me realise why I'm here. (20 words).

The TRNC is my home and I live in peace with my TC neighbours and try to understand their way of life and the suffering they have endured since 1974.

Sorry Hans but 20 words could be a severe limitation for some people (me included).

Many threads on this board hold a hundred or more postings about (you may fill in the subject). Many times about something in the UK, or what's wrong or missing in the TRNC.

And this thread stopped at 21 postings! Makes one think about the mentality of the (British) expat community. Do you really have *nothing* positive to add to a thread about the country where you live?! Sorry, but I find that very sad.

i like:

The lack of mains water

The shitty beaches

The tatty property all over the place

The red tape every time you need to do anything

The rocketing prices

The litter

The system that favours the Cypriots 2,000 miles ahead of the Brits

The lack of kocans

The fact that builders can have you over every which way and there is feck all you can do about it.

The crap entertainment.

The fact that Cypriots are wonderful people until you involve money.

The fact that it is impossible to sell your home for anywhere near what you paid for it.

The falling interest rates on your savings and the massive car crash coming round the corner.

The fact that it is almost impossible for a Brit to obtain a legitimate job.

The fact that the system makes it nye on impossible to start a business.

The fact that if you have a business the only way to make a small fortune would be to start with a large one and be in business for 12 months...

Yep, i love the place.

RE msg 26, negativenick : (...) Yep, i love the place. Nick (...)

===> And when you arrived here you really thought it was the Isle of Wight?! Come on, you could have known most of the *complaints* on your sad list from the start. Conclusion: the TRNC is not what you expected and so the TRNC is to blame. Look in the mirror, Nick, pack your suitcases and make this an even better place.

Dutch, what Nick says is right and we all know it. Fair play to him for putting it in black and white.

be honest, who in their right mind would buy here at the moment ? Suzie

ps: he forgot to add about the pending Orams case.

I give up on the sad moaners. Some people love to live here (and accept the TRNC for what it is) - and I'm one of them. All others: have a safe flight home, where the grass is greener.

PS. Why the heck did you leave home in the first place?!! Don't blame the TRNC, blame yourselves for making a wrong, stupid decision.

Rather than attack Nick for his views, we should thank him for them, as his view along with all the positive ones provide a balance of information for anyone contemplating the move to NC.

Surely this is what Cyprus44is all about.

It was a nice thread and then someone who really shouldn't be/doesnt want to be, in TRNC cocks it up again!
