My friend was reading his book earlier and read this out to me: It may be very sunny in Cyprus, but there are many shady people.

Cyprus is no exception in coming accross shady people. It is true of every place where humans inhabit. Perhaps because Cyprus is such a small place with so much sun that the shady parts stand out! Take, for instance, back home, I am sure there may be equal number if not more per population but the weather and size makes visibility very poor!

Fred8 why do you assume that the Uk has to be far worse than Cyprus. There is a ratio of 1 to 150, so for twenty dodgy lawyers in Cyprus there must be more than 3000 in the UK? Can you prove that?

Quarmby Of course not. But if we are to concentrate on soley on the lawyers issue, and if one has the time and resources, it would be not difficult to come out with figures for lawyers in the UK who have gone 'astry' or at least figures for those who have been caught. For instance the weekly law society gazzette has cases of lawyers who the Disciplinary Tribunal of the Law Society have deemed to have been involved in shady dealing. Whilst such figures I would assume does not exists for cyprus because of lack of regulatory processes I would still maintain what I have said above- ifonly for the sake of clarity - 'maybe' and not what I am supposed to have said i.e. "that the Uk has to be far worse than Cyprus". Nevertheless, the comments were in jest highlighting the 'sunny' and 'shady' aspect of life in Cyprus than a methodoligical accurate statement of fact.
