I know you can only stay in TRNC for 90 days at a time without applying for residency but does anyone know how long you can be out of the UK without

incurring problems.

In theory if you spend more than half the year out of the UK - you could be classified as non resident.. but there are lots of exceptions.. what sort of problems do you mean? - Health Services rights?

To add to mmmm

If you stay for longer than only 3 months outside the UK ,then you are classed as living abroad. You are no longer registered with NHS and have to pay fully if you return to UK for say medical reasons or took ill on a visit. This assumes that the authorities know you have been outside UK. I imagine they will eventually scan all passports and that will be cross refernced with NI number, but dont know at moment if you could pretend you are UK resident.

Same applies to pensions ,the state pension never increases ,if living out EU.

At the very least ,if you want pretend you are UK resident in order to prevent the above happening, then you must have an address and be on electoral roll.

HiThanks, yes health rights, we have only ever lived in UK but have bought

property over there, now trying to fine tune how to proceed without losing

any of our UK rights. Everything seems so confusing.

Hi girne 29,

Your msg 3,

If you follow mmmmmmmmmmmms link you will see that pension increases are only paid if you live in the EEA(EU?) or if you live in a country that has a special agreement with the UK. Turkey is one of those countries. Either way then, living in TRNC you will/should get annual increases.

It is for tax reasons, but only on income from working abroad.Difference between living abroad and working abroad. You can look up the NHS related web sites for info.

TRNC vaughan. I have checked that out years ago when planning retirement and unless its changed you are correct for pension rises if living in Turkey but there is no reciprocal agreement with NHS so the 3 month rule would aply when returning to UK.

TRNC is not included as part of Turkey, nor in the EU.

"TRNC is not included as part of Turkey"

Then why is the address, Mersin 10, Turkey?

I think it is because all mail goes to Mersin before it is sent over to North Cyprus, this is what I was told.

The trade off is between living abroad and having to pay for NHS treatment on your return to the UK or maintaining a UK address and being subject to UK tax.

Try this link.

Where in the link that you refer to does it state that Turkey has an agreement with the UK for Annual Pension increases?

Would love to know as DHSS - Pensions Office Newcastle, have told us to look again.

I confirm you will get pension increases here - I do.

Re msg 10 / 11

The post should be labelled "Mersin 10, Turkey" as the international postal Union respects the UN security council Resolution re the illegality of "TRNC".

Letters posted with Cyprus in the address are likely to be routed via the RoC .

"Mersin 10" was Turkey's workaround to the "problem"

As I'm accused of "bias", I include a link to the "TRNC" line on it..

You are joking ,surely you know its like a PO box. 1,its because officially TRNC doesnt exist,so your mail goes to Turkey ,where officially TRNC does exist and therefore your mail can be sent from there.

2, I have been to Mersin and honestly ,the TRNC is not there, tho couldnt find the 10 .

3. For NHS it doesnt matter anyway, and for the pension increase, well just tell dwp you want it because you live in, trnc ,Mersin 10.That should raise a few chuckles.

"Can't you give an address in the Republic of Cyprus?"

Dont see why not,but would be no different than giving address in UK,

Think its easier to use uk address and have all mail re-sent to NC.
