Having attended the HBPG meeting today and listening to Mr Pertev of the Peoples Party, IMHO he is the only hope for the future of the TRNC. He seems to be the only politician who wants to do something positive and constructive for the TRNC as a whole, instead of the current government coalition and the previous government coalition who have only brought the TRNC to its knees with the economy, the construction industry, the quality of life here. Unless his party gets some MP's in parliament I fear we will be in the same if not worse position for years to come.

There are apparantly 22,000 foreign owners here and 14,000 living here so we all need to spread the word and support this party who want to stamp out the corruption here and stop the common practise of policitcal favours for votes. We need to stop the politicians lining their pockets and doing nothing but strip the TRNC bare and wreck the economy.

The party desparately needs funds to raise awareness and make a change because they are not funded from the government like the other parties who already have MP's. Anyone who wants to contribute or help can donate to the Halk Partisi Bank Account at Asbank, account no 126 8610 30193333 or speak to Mustafa 0533 8636267. Unless we make a change now, we are doomed.

No these are mainly expats, foreign buyers, not students etc. The feeling was very positive at the meeting about Mr Pertev and he needs our support to stamp out the corruption and get the TRNC functioning properly again to make it a better place for everyone.

Mr Pertev, has said if he gets in, he will give ALL residents the vote, he is sensible and really wants to sort the mess out. I fear he does not having the right Turkish backing, though, and will have an uphill struggle to get anywhere.

If there is one man that deserves our support, it is him. But whether we donate or not, we expats don't have a political voice, so I would like to know how we could help him?

Keith, I don't know what you mean. Did you read your last sentence before you posted?

No!

Well, I thought that I had...

What I meant was - he was talking about the right to vote, in LOCAL elections, as opposed to NATIONAL elections - I agreed with everything else that you said, by the way. I thought that people might get the wrong idea, as you didn't specify.

Sorry for the confusion.

Keith.

Glad to have met you today, an interesting meeting but still a lot of questions to be answered.

Take care

Unfortunately, apathy never changed anything. The only way to change things is to try, OK so it might not work the first time, but Obama probably said that too! Instead of people moaning that they can't do anything, why don't you try? You never know what will happen. If the HBPG thought that, we would've given up ages ago. You are the only ones who can make a change together.
