A question: if one was to marry a TC, would they automatically have the legality to live and work in the TRNC? Just a question, but am very curious... Y

Hello Yvonne, If you are married to a Cypriot you have the right to stay here. They changed the law so I am not sure how they do it now - but before you got a stamp in your passport which was valid for one year and could be extended every year until you have the right to get the citizenship. For working you had to have a working permission as long you are don't have the cz. Hope this helps Kantara

Thanks for your comments guys Jock1, unfortunately been bitten once by the fair institution of marriage, so now twice shy! Was curious though, as thinking ahead, I would one day like to move out there and work - a life in the sun has always been my dream... Oh well...

One presumes YOU would get TRNC residency (for the time being anyway, for what it's worth), but HE would get UK residency and EU rights. I think I know which one would be the greater prize.

Msg 8 not true, they get a 2 year visa and at the end of that 2 years the marriage is looked at and the visa is extended. To get uk citizenship is not as easy as you think, you have to apply and pay and then told not to contact them for 18 months. You need to supply a full work history, references and police reports. It took my hubby exactly 18 months before he got citizenship and was then able to apply for a british passport.
