A schoolboy who has become a dad at the age of 13 has insisted he will be a good parent. Alfie Patten's girlfriend Chantelle Steadman, 15, gave birth to Maisie Roxanne in Eastbourne Hospital, East Sussex, four days ago. Police have said they are not looking at prosecuting anyone in the case of Alfie, who stands just 4ft tall and looks young for his age. The teenager, who told The Sun "I thought it would be good to have a baby", admitted he did not think about how he would afford to raise his child, saying: "I don't really get pocket money. My dad sometimes gives me £10," he said..

What happened to children still playing with action men etc at 12/13 and where are the parents when these two children were sleeping together, and of course who will keep the baby, the State of course. If it was the other way round and the boy was 15 and the girl 13 they would be prosecuting him for rape

Bless the pair of them. It's Valentines day tomorrow. Look forward to my taxes paying for the up keep of the child and no doubt a house/flat thrown in when the mother is sixteen. She says she was on the pill and the day they had sex she forgot to take it! (no work for the rest of her life) Doubt they will be together too long though , once Chantelle is after his £10 pocket money and puts the block on Alfie playing out with his mates after school ! Rumour has it that they are to appear on the "Jeremy Kyle" show as Alfie is not sure if he is the father.....and Chantelle alleges he has cheated on her 3 times in the last 2 years. Can't wait the lie detector results.

Tonight on the tv news 2 teenage mums interviewed, one who had her baby at 15yrs said "I thought it would be easy and I would get a house and all that but it's been hard work". This government has encouraged these girls and others to become mums by giving them house, benefits. No need to work just meet up with mates around town clogging the shops up with buggies and prams and being able to afford anything they want. See them everytime I go to my local town.

Oh dear, Oh dear, arn't we all so righteous. of course its not a great situation for anybody, and i dare say the state will pick up the bill along the way, but there's a lot worse going on in the world. Whats done is done, a new life has entered the world. Not condoning their behaviour but worst things have happened, nobody's died just wish that these kids had been taught to be more responsible.

In UK I was a lecturer and personal tutor in an FE college teaching 16+ Every year we had at least one femaile student who became pregnant. When asked what their plans were the answer was always the same. I have been to the social. I am getting a flat/house and benefits. I will carry on studying until the baby is due. Needless to say in most cases they left the course. These youngsters have never worked or paid into the system but know how to bleed the system. This is a true reflection of todays society. If parents had to take responsability and pay for the upkeep of both daughter and grandchild they may not have such a carefree attitude towards their kids actions. Whe are the government going to wake up and stop the benefit culture. Sassy

All joking aside, this us an appalling situation that highlights again the lack of morality in the UK. The 15 year old Mother who was on the pill said she forgot to take it when the baby was conceived. She will not be able to claim any benefits until she reached the age of 16. However her mother, who is unmarried and has 4 children, will be able to claim extra benefits to support the baby. The family can expect to receive £30,000 a year in benefits. Coincidentally, it has also been reported today that another unmarried mother of 18, with a 3 year old son, is expecting triplets. More benefits to be played by the hardworking taxpayers. A sad state of affairs.

you seem to forget that for 1000's of years young girls at 12 n 13 have had children via dirty old men, or what ever age. parents from The far east etc have forced their children to marry for years, for what they call 'traditon' religion, or the like. The poor children have to become wives n mothers when they should be out skipping, or playing kids chase. Its sad, but its nothing new.

I do not who to feel sorry for the most, an innocent baby or the children that produced it. What life are the 3 of them going to have? living within a dysfunctional family and growing up to be another statistic of the welfare state. What parent in possession of an ounce of common sense would allow their children and newborn baby to be paraded before the media, will we be seeing them on these morning shout shows? I presume the money offered will more than make up for it.

I posted some photos of Mars recently and had a shed load of nasty crap about how irrelevant it was to the TRNC and as a total saddo I ought to be seeking another forum and go forth and multiply. In the end I shut it down. Interesting that this old load of Daily Mail shock! horror! old rubbish of "what has the country come to?" "another teenage mum getting a home on benefits" "Britain's going down the drain etc etc" "Foreigners have taken over" is going down a storm, everybody has got a handle on it giving their disapproval, even me. They're not even sure he is the father. Well I must be a saddo as well, because what the hell has this stupid story of teenage sex resulting in a baby got with the TRNC? Well you've guessed it! Diddly squat! So maybe next time I post some photos of Mars, I'll include some lurid old twaddle about a 12 year old Martian getting his girlfriend pregnant. Crabs on Uranus, I don't think so. Explain all this, oh happy friends. Lem

The latest is a 14yr has now come forward and said he is the father and wants a DNA test. It would seem the £sd is flashing its head and everyone wants to get in on the act. If it wasnt so sad it would be hilairious.

a lot of young studs around that area. All now on the media bandwagon. Wonder when they Jermy Kyle show is being shown and with all the excitement of the DNA results. It just all beggers belief that poor baby. I hope and I pray she will be looked after but not by the grandmother. Who knows what age she would be having boys around for that poor child.

They should show this pic to the girls in school, should put them off.(octuplets ) http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/02/12/article-1142566-037E2712000005DC-944_468x646_popup.jpg I dont know if that worked. On the topic of babies, not necessarily anything to do with the TRNC, A woman gave birth to 6 last month and has 8 at home already under 8 yrs old, unemployed and single living with at home with mom. All invitro, the doctor should be fired.

hi turbo that woman is sick bringing babies into the world and denying caring folk the opportunity . who can we blame society the media or greed or the governments. The doctor should have known her history but still let her go through it. Did she have to pay for this treatment in the USA. Now I guess they will all be split up how the hell can you look after that many. I guess pampers baby milk etc will sponsor them for a while whilst the PR machine works. Although having said all that my late father was one of 17 in Ireland no welfare state then. A a great family they all turned out to be because they were scared of authority thier parents and of course the priest

having read the papers today there are another 2 boys who could be the father - one being 16 and one being 14 - both say they were with the mother at the time of conception - who did (at age 15) - apparently get intimate with both around the time of the baby being conceived (in her bed at home). DNA tests will now be done for all. Who is wrong - child or parents? I know my 13 year old son would not be in his bedroom with his girlfriend (if he has one)/

What a damned disgrace this is turning out to be...what is this girl ..the local lay and at 15, I hope her parents are disgusted with her behaviour but probably not..this all stems from bad parental responsibilities and bad schooling..we have some dreadful role models out there and teachers etc today cannot spell themselves..the child should be placed in care, the mother sterilised and the parents prosecuted for wilful neglect.

Lilli, just because you asked: She was hoping to get some sort of fame from this whole story, it back fired on her, after it was discovered that she already has a whole brood at home no one wants anything to do with her, she cant sell her story, she wont get any promotion from Pampers or any other company. The doctor is being looked at in a negative light the he assisted, what was he thinking. The government paid for her medical expenses and all her food stamps etc.. Sad that people like her are allowed to have so many kids and keep them when other folks are paying fortunes to get the Invitro or trying to adopt with out any luck. Makes one take a step back and look at what is wrong with this world. The story here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28939439/

Talking about being off topic, back ın 1993 myself and two other RNR officers were called in and told the IRA had taken our names and details from the Navy List and we had to check under our cars etc for a few months. But ultimately they lost, eh? ;) |

If this story was not so tragic then it would be worth laughing about, seems now Alfie will have a DNA test to prove if he's the father (as now there's another 6 guys claiming to be, lets hope there not being paid by the newspapers for their stories) I really hope for their sakes, Alfie is, otherwise the conscenquencies will be shocking, the tabloid newspapers will have another field day, she will become the worlds youngest slapper, heaven help her after that, no doubt social services will step in, thousands having to be spent re-housing the family and new life to get away from the press, thousands on counselling, this will haunt her for the rest of her life, not saying she/they do not deserve some of it, but sadly a poor reflection of the current times back in the UK of parenting, education, social services, society, morals etc etc. You would think that social services would have tried to protect these kids away from the lime light and the seedy journalism from certain newspapers

cont/ Until the full facts were known. As for Alfie, he will be free to sell his new story, as a victim this time and no doubt will try with someone else to father a kid. What ever happened to the millions spent on EDUCATION, EDUCATION, EDUCATION, under Blairs regime (well he always talked, talked and talked about it) but did he ever do anything about it?

Dear Scotsguy, Re M116/117 Having worked in Social Services and CSA for too long, the present lack of morals in the UK- but more due to lack of common sense - is only eclipsed by the bonuses of bankers and liberal credit controls. Believe me,until stupid politians and society do not reward this irresponsible behaviour, then the ordinary tax payer will continue to prop these people up. Tabloids and Jeremy Kyle thrive on such tripe. They could start by not giving child benefit and tax credits out - stop at child two. Fathers who dont pay should get their benefits reduced and maybe named and shamed. The parents of this pair need to have their benefits docked. About time the benefits society was called time on. This is a wind up subject but simple truth in SS is - too many chiefs and not enough indians, and a society that allows pc ness-but is not tough enough on slappers, benefit cheats and laziness. Thats why you need a sense of humour to keep you sane, regards to all,Steve

They might even make a movie about it, how any 8 year olds will want to play his part and have some fun with a 15 yr old ???????? |

Lilli, you will have seen my note a couple of weeks ago on Daniel Tammet - his book Born on a Blue Day is quite illuminating - only half way through it. Interested in this subject as I had to supervise a young man with Asperger's disease - he spoke and acted totally black and white .ie he called a spade a spade and people didn't like it. Underneath he was a bright kid but people labelled him - but he just took a bit more understanding and time. Nice lad, totally honest, and his mum used to tell me he used to add up the prices of goods bought in the supermarket - but he was also a whizz on computer spreadsheets.Just a question of finding what he is good at ,bit of trial and error, but rewarding. The father is very short sighted,he will be the loser, and your grandson he will be ok,regards,Steve

Dear No 1,I'm sure you did not cause any offence - as I said,if you didn't have a sense of humour in this job you would go mad. We had a lot of dealings with the local undertaker - great bloke, and some of the blokes he had working for him had wicked senses of humour - you can imagine the jokes - but it was Dave Allen type to keep you sane ...life is very cruel, but as long as there is no malice or intent...it will be ok,kind regards,Steve

From the Sunday Times-: Dennis Patten's mother said she was loathe to talk about her new granddaughter, because she did not want to ' interfere with my son's business interests' Makes you all warm and toasty that, this innocent baby and its child parents are so cherished, money earned from deals going into a trust fund then?? Will the benefits agency be asking the families how much money they are getting from the tabloids etc and will they adjust their benefits accordingly? I understand that Chantelles mother's benefit claims will be an alleged £30k p.a. for her family.

Alfie lives with his Mum in a lovely £300.000 house didn't mention whether we as tax payers are paying the rent or if she owns it picture of it in yesterdays paper. On a tv programme today it was said his Mother will be appearing in court in the next few weeks for his non attendance at school, maybe by not going to school he misssed out on the sex education.

Are we getting into the realms of irresponsible parents as hinted at above, should over stressed care workers not be given more numbers, would the government be accused of meddling too much in families, or is it our culture and we are reaping such rewards?
