Would heartily recommend this Ridley Scott film available on DVD, though be careful to get the "Directors Cut" or you will miss half the story. For those interested in the castles of TRNC you will find Guy De Lusignan plays a major role in the film... I think Richard The Lionheart eventually booted him out of Jerusalem and to keep him happy gave him Cyprus It is ironic, 700 years later, and still the problems of Jerusalem remain unresolved and indeed reflect those of Cyprus today... Jerusalem at that time being split by religious and political intrigue. But I recommend the movie not for those reasons but simply because it is a cracking tale of adventure and typical Ridley Scott... superb. If you visit Hilarion castle you will find many references to Guy De Lusignan on the history boards displayed in the small museum, and having sen the film it amazed me how well the stories knitted. Kingdom Of Heaven, a must see film if interested in Cyprus history. Regards Joseph

Guy de Lusignan and his army lost a battle against the Kurd (Arab) hero Saladin (as we call him in the West). The battle is known as "the Battle of Hattin" and it meant the beginning of the end of the Crusaders in the Holy Land. If you want to know more, I'll be pleased to tell you. (...) | [ continued ] test evidence that Guy de (of) Lusignan has ever been inside Saint Hilarion (bastardized name: Dieu d'Amour : God of Love"). He was a (French) vassal of Richard the Lionheart (King of England and King of part of France) and bought the Island of Cyprus after the Knights Templar (who bought Cyprus from Richard, after his conquest in 1191) couldn't control the island against the unruly Byzantine natives. |

Poor old Dutch.. at it again... as I said in the original post... if you want to watch a cracking movie then get this out... great entertainment. Funny... Dutch refers to Guy De Lusignan losing the battle of Hattin to Saladin marking the end of the Crusades... exactly how the film portrays it too? Ah well if Dutch says this is complete nonsense well Dutch must be right for my part I enjoyed the film it was superb, thank heavens I got to see the movie before old Dutch got his claws out as I think he finds it hard to keep hollywood and reality apart... I give people more credit... I think they can? Regards Joseph

So... anyone else for a suggestion as to a recent great movie? Some of the old ones still lasting the test of time such as ... Scrooge Random Harvest A Wonderful Life Just been watching Cool Hand Luke... This movie takes place at a prison camp just outside Hilarion Castle and deals with the devil-may-care attitude of one of the inmates on a chaingang... Only kidding Dutch Regards Joseph Regards Joseph

I also loved this film (Kingdom of Heaven) - very entertaining. Another one I would thoroughly recommend is Apocalypto. It's set in the decline of the Mayans and can be quite brutal at points (not unnecessarily so in my opinion) but is well worth watching.
