I am bringing in the BA larnaca flight next week on the 25th(Let me know if you're on it) and will only be in cyprus for 24 hours.I want to quickly go and visit Thalassa up near Bogaz that afternoon or early the following morning.

What's the easiest way,as obviously I need a car,a taxi isn't flexible enough,as I'll probably stay the night in Bogaz or somewhere close.

I won't have time to be driven to Kyrenia to fill in car hire forms,so is there a company who will give me a hire car and presumably i drive to the Famagusta crossing?

Is there a company that has offices near there who can maybe pick me up and take me somewhere close to get the car.I know there are loads in Kyrenia but not so many up that east coast.

Any help appreciated as many of us Thalassa buyers will be doing this route in the future so I thought I'd test it out, maybe its not the Famagusta crossing either I was just guessing!

Looking forward to your tips,

Cheers Stu

Stu...I'm not too familiar with the Bogaz side I'm afraid but there are plenty on here that will help you out later hen they log on.

If you are piloting the flight , how about fabricating an emergency landing scenario and touching down at Ercan......sorted !

Thanks guys those lovely developers always said 60-90 mins so its about time one of us actually found out the truth!!!,I must admit I thought it was alot quicker, bit of a pain if its not an easy run.

Not sure BA would appreciate my love of Northern Cyprus as an excuse to land at Ercan!,although its certainly an option if Larnaca closed.

Stu...as i said i've never done that route, but when we fly into Larnaca it's generally 75 minutes to Kyrenia (take a change of underwear! ) but i would imagine you could do Larnac to Bogaz in 2 to 2 hours 30 mins as Nige said.

The "60-90 minutes" was written by the same ad agency who tell you that Lapta is 5 minutes from Kyrenia.

Well i guess i'll have to ditch the cheap staff tickets to Larnaca in the future and go the Ercan full fare route, can't bear the thought of the family whingeing for 2.30 all the way to Bogaz!

Problem is Stu..they'll be whingeing whilst sat on the tarmac at Istanbul or Dalman for an hour during the changeover.

You can't win.

We've done both, and I'm starting to favour Larnaca because at least you can get off the plane after 4 hours or so.

The overall journey time door to door is probably the same.

Can someone who actually knows what they are talking about answer stu's question please?

Journey time in a car from Larnaca to Bogaz?

Me and Nige have managed to confuse him enough through our misguided info / idiocy.

Be nice to Stu...he might be "bringing you in" one day. ;-)

Cronos,

Thanks mate ,most threads just seem to turn into utter drivel after a while,it does annoy me on this forum, especially when legit stuff is lost inbetween.I said the same thing on the Famagusta border crossing thread, which was obviously of interest to me but only one person posted anything worthy of reading.

Thanks to all the people who replied with useful stuff though and I'll give Ozgur a shout in the meantime.

Cheers Stu

This reply is obviously a bit late to help Stu. But for future reference, Larnaca to Bogaz is no more than 1hour 15 minutes, you can use either the old Black Knight crossing (Famagusta) or the Pyla crossing. This one is difficult if you do not no how to get to Bogaz. You CAN hire a car from Petsas car hire in Larnaca airport, tell them that you want to travel to the North and they will insure you there at the desk. You can even get fully comp insurance now and contrary to all the doom and gloom and I would'nt do that merchants, things are quite civilised here.

Hi Stu, the last time I used Petsas was in October 07, I have lived in Bogaz since July 08 so have not needed to hire a car. But in Oct 07 they charged me 241eu for 14 days car hire, high season and 36eu for TRNC insurance. Your best bet is to look at Petsas website which is http://www.petsas.com.cy You will have no problem at the border crossing when crossing into the North, you just have to show your passport and car insurance, they will then fill out a small slip of paper which you keep in your passport, this is your Giris and Cikis form (entry and exit). On returning to the south, the Greeks WILL search your belongings for excess duty allowance, so they say, and if you have bought property here make sure that you do not carry any documents with you as they are very touchy about foreigners buying their land, even if you can prove that it is pre 1974 Turkish title. Dan.
