We bought some fabulous pork chops here this week and have just read in the paper that the owner is having financial problems. If you haven't tried his meat then I can recommend it. It was reasonably priced too!It would be a shame if we lost this shop.

Good post Norbid.

Even if his business went bust. The shop would still be there.

PS. I think his ad, showing all the little piggies, would probably do more harm than good.

I have had several different cuts from him since he opened and they have all been delicious ..... tender, lovely flavour.

Plus they're always friendly when you go in there!

It would be a shame if he loses out in this climate....

Pinkchilli, isn't that a bit cynical on a thread that tries to be helpful? I think we should do what we can to save good shops from going under.

Cyprusactive. Message 4.

You are quite right. I apologise for my lack of sensitivity. It's just my "slightly" warped sense of humour.

Nick, you are indirectly involved in selling. You place ads, you write articles, you have a stall at Chateau Lambousa. You will tehrefore be aware of the statement:

"Sell the sizzle, not the steak"

If this particular business, had some plump pork sausages, sizzling away in a pan, giving out a sensational aroma, I beleive, IMHO, that assuming a little taster was offered, they just might sell more pork products, than advertising pictures of live pigs in a field.

Brits are there ONLY source of customers, bar 2 Germans and a Dutch couple (there goes my sarcasm again), and we all remember what happened to the sales of pork after the film Babe.

I do support this shop and wish them every success.

PS. My drains are running smoothly! Thanks.

Hamza has seen a niche market and caters to us non-muslims (I know, there are a few LTCs in there, now and again) and we should use him or loose him.

His pork is very tasty being reared non-EU. Marketing is not his strong point and maybe he needs some help there.

He does some lovely fat spicey sausages ideal for toad in the Hole much better than those tastless frozen ones .he's also cut me up some small peices so I could make sweet and sour and a curries which I put into my old ice cream tubs and then freeze ready to pop in the mic if we are hungry after a night out - beats waiting for a takeaway.Oh and I make up batches of rice as well.

It`s on the main Girne/Lapta road in Alsancak, opposite Starling Supermarket. I intend to go there more often in the future.

One problem is there is very little variation in the prices ie. same price for chops as it is for belly pork

I have worked in Saudiarabia for well over twenty years and believe me missing the pork is abig part of our daily lives. Dont let these shops go under as you most certainly will miss it when you cant get it. For example I travel across a buisy causeway cue for 2 hours each way just to get my pork products, I risk confiscation and prosecution but its all worth it. I will support the shop if its as good as you say it is and thats for sure.

By the way I might cue for the pork but also have a few pints whilst i am over in bahrain along with the rest of the expat community in Saudi Arabia. Who said Saudi Arabia dont have pubs. Bahrain is the biggest pub I have ever been in. LOL

when was you over here? Its changed tremendously in the last 10 years, especially in the past 5/6. If you like a party its amazing and the music scene is improving . If you are crew now its pretty much free for you girls. You are right we can get anything. You should pop over for a weekend and revisit the place. It is quite cheap from Larnaca (Gulf Air and Cyprus Air Code Share)

Weere you Gulf Air by any chance?

We bought all sorts of pork from the shop, froze it and brought it back to Oman in December. Great stuff, especially the sausages on the barbie! Hope he doesn't go out of business before we return for a week in April. Pork here in Oman is outrageously priced...equivalent to 20YTL for a small pork pie in some shops!!

Spread the word everyone so this guy stays in business!

Tootie - Bells foods has black pud - pre sliced unfortunately, but it's good stuff. An alternative is the local Pastarma sausage which is often to be seen hanging up in Atakara and other good butcheries. A bit more spicy than UK pud, and made with beef, but jolly good all the same.

Hamzals biggest problem, so he told me, is the expense of the feed to his ever growing herd and he refuses to do business with the large hotels as there credit terms are too prohibitive, no good for a small trader. I did suggest that he should consider opening a kebab style take away, outside his shop using pork instead of the usual lamb or chicken, called 'giro' (I think, Greek) which I'm sure would work well. He's reflecting on it!

All butchers seem to be the same here with no price differential between cuts, Ossobuco the same per kilo as sirloin?!
