Hi can anyone recommend any decent gyms that don't charge the earth for membership, I was a member of the Colony but this has now expired, but it was a friendly atmosphere and I looked forward to going there each morning. I have been to look at a couple but one of them which was very impressive was more expensive than the Colony, although when they state 100ytl a month it works out to over £500 a year which is a lot of money for here. Has anyone been to Jasmin Court gym I hear its sparse, all I need is the basics, any info would be appreciated

I knwo there is a gym on the side street that joins tin pan alley and the military building, behind a hotel on the high street in Girne, dont know the name, just know that a lot of locals use it. Ther is a soldier standing guard duty next to it, thats one way of finding the place.

Hi smithy, Jasmine used to be a good deal, when I joined about 4 years ago it cost about £70 per year and I could also take a guest, gym is sparse but it also has a sauna. Not been for 2 years so I went in January to rejoin, was told come back next month, new management and this years prices hadn't been decided, after lots of coming and going I was told last week 500 euros.

God with the euro being the same as sterling rate, that would work out at £500 per year what a large jump from £70 from when you last joined, and being sparse is ok but at that price I would want the Rocks Hotel even theirs is less than that.

Many thanks for the info

What have to the place in Kervansaray, Lifezone or something like that,,is it no longer there?

Here in the US, gyms can vary from $20 TO the sky is the limit, but at $35 a month they are great, pools, steam, sauna and top notch equipment also classes every hour from yoga to spin to cardio, , they are not fully stocked with the latest stuff, not really comparing but how can they get away with charging so much? Is there a high demand?

It would be cheaper to buy a bike and some home weights. use the spare room, have a couple of mates come over and share.

You are so right how come they charge so much, I thought the Colony was expensive the most people at a time there were 4/5 how can this pay, surely if they lower the price more would join, going around a few tomorrow, I haven't got the room for a running machine etc in my apt, but will keep looking, Lifezone I'm not sure what they charge, hopefully will find out soon,

many thanks for your help and advice

Smithy, don't know it's name but there's a gym just along from the Back in Time bar overlooking the sea in Girne - take the road opposite Astro down to the seafront and it's the last unit on the right.

JimmyG, I have been to that one its called Sproium, keeping that one in mind, went to Lifezone wasn't all that impressed, also went to the Rocks, very impressive but well over the tops with prices, so far I think Pumps has impressed me with their atmosphere and friendly staff, and they cater for all ages. Many thanks everyone for all your help.

Yorkie58 you are so right they are all overpriced and outdoing themselves, what I mean by being impressed is that the ones I looked at today dont even look clean, but was very impressed with pumps they are a husband and wife team and know what they are talking about, and also very helpful
