markcbm: "what was Solomos solomou trying to do when he was shot Juliet" Not quite the point. The issue most Turkish Cypriots will be thinking about is do we want this foreigner on the run from Interpol on a murder rap elected to office in OUR country? The reputation of the TRNC not as the homeland of Turkish Cypriots but as a refuge for murderers, thugs and crooks will be renewed.

Dee very clever you go from thousands to millions. This is a deadly serious issue and not one to be joked with. A man was shot dead in cold blood. There were many witnesses to the incident including tv cameras. Have a look at the link below. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solomos_Solomou

Dee Did you have the same opinion when you lived in the south? Put the guys name into google and see what comes up it will make interesting reading. The facts still remain that this guy is wanted for murder, protected by an administration and wants to be part of a government. If that is the country which you choose to live in then it says more about you than it does others.

Nobody seems to remember that a lot of British Servicemen were shot by EOKA. Do our Greek-biased contributors have anything to say about these murders? These guys were real cowards when cornered and not sniping our lads from a distance. Standing orders were if they don't comply shoot the leader. They usually did comply as they knew what the standing orders were as well as the Brits.

Mark re msg 26 The Greeks would have done nothing however the Greek Cypriots would have arrested him and let the courts deal with it. Not shot another un armed man who posed no threat to them. At a court case at the ECHR Turkey had to award compensation to the family. To make further comment it would be wise to do some research on the person who is accused of the crime.

Dee What happened did you move from the south because you didn't believe what GC's said? Are you using this forum to wind people up? You think it is right that an unarmed man who posed no threat should be shot 3 times in a buffer zone? The person who is accused of doing it and even pointed a finger to where the order came from, will not travel because of the international arrest warrant now wants to be part of government? It is not right that anyone should use this incident for political gain.

So do you still think its acceptable that this man is being harboured by TC authorities despite the International arrest warrant for the killing of an innocent man? Is this someone you would like to see involved in the running of your adopted country? Did your research on the place you "choose to live and happily" include how many criminals are harboured? Each to their own i suppose

If you haven't met him, unless you speak Turkish, he won't understand you unless his son is about who speaks fluent English. I can give you directions to his house on the Illgaz road if you want. |

Seeing as he was actually in office at the time of the shooting (the first Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources) makes his crime worse. He should have been arrested and put on trial. What sort of civilised country condones the killing of an unarmed man, crazy with grief for his cousin's brutal death a short while before at the hands of a mob, for merely trying to tear down a flag? Even the most nationalistic fanatic would have to call this murder!!! If they "had" to stop him, why not shoot him in the leg? When someone shoots you in the mouth and neck - I don't believe they are just "warning" shots are they?

Dee You have dodged the questions I asked. What has Makarios got to do with the fact someone accused of murder is being harboured and wants to be involved in the administration of the country whom is harbouring him? Would you be happy knowing that someone who is accused of such a crime is involved in the running of your adopted country? Was that part of your research which you done? Im looking forward to your answers Dee as you have so far left these questions unanswered.

"Would he get a fair and unbias trial if he gave himself up " He has pretty much already been tried in public and it is hard to believe that the accused could get a fair trial in the RoC in my opinion. That is not to say that I do not think he should have to answer the accusations in a court of law I am just doubtful he could get a fair hearing in a RoC court. Not sure about the legal possibility but perhaphs some sort of UN court as the alledged offense occured on the buffer zone ?

| Hello Stubs, I will still try and have a look. Some people so far suggest it does not show the accussed firing the shots. No one is disputing the man was intending to pull down a flag. Harsh thing to do but in a mob mentality and tempers rising things like this happen. I do not condone murder. Do the GC's have eye witnesses that can stand up in a court of law and say. "That is the man that fired the shots, I saw him aiming and shooting the gun" or will TC.s stand up and say the same thing? Had a look at the Famagusta gazette earlier and one person comments were: - PR FEB 24 • It just goes to prove there can never be a lasting peace in cyprus even after an agreement with scum like this roaming around. dont agree to any settlement unless he and all the other settlers are shipped back to turkey. no agreement is better than a bad one at least now there is relative security. If things fall apart in cyprus again in the future greek cypriots will come off worse again.

cont: I agree with his view of "no agreement is better than a bad one at least now there is relative security. If things fall apart in cyprus again in the future greek cypriots will come off worse again". RELATIVE SECURITY for both sides has been in place for over 30 years. Two states allowed to go about there buisness is the only solution. No one has a minority sharing of power. God bless all Islanders (my god & yours)
