Anyone any experience of what the hospitals,GP's treatment of any illness/broken limbs etc is like in TRNC + costs? I 've heard that some people cross over to the south - any truth in this?

On a similar theme, I understand dentists are accesible and reasonable cost wise - any similar thoughts on teeth?

Regards to all,Steve

Had to take my son to the hospital once, staff were excellent much better than the NHS with no mucking about and very reasonable charge.

The hospitals here are very efficient and no nonsense...just don't get into a major accident where a lengthy stay is innevitable, because unless you have friends or family to come in every day to look after you, you will rot in a hospital bed! You will have your injections and a catheter change, but thats as much care as you will get. It's no joke!!

On a recent visit, attended the Esentepe medical centre. Very nice English speaking doctor, consultation was I think either £7.50 or 7.5TL can't remember which.

Sent me to Kyrenia hospital for X-Ray, this cost 10TL and was completed and developed within 5 mins of arrival, no waiting.

So have to say very cheap but certainly not inferior to NHS.

We have used the local Doctors in Girne a couipl of times. We were charged (if I can remember) about £20.00 or 50TL at the time.

I was prescribed medication, which I took to the local pharmacy and bought what was prescribed. No problems at all.

Not used the hospitals or dentists though, so cannot comment on these.

June 2007

My husband had a heart attack after going diving. thanks to the quick action of those at Amphora diving school who took him to Kyrenia Hospital he was transfered to Lefkosia and had a stent put in within 90 minutes of feeling unwell. He was in for a week and I have to say couldn't have been better looked after. Total cost £1030. On our return to England and being seen by doctors they have all said thanks to quick treatment there is no damage to his heart and he was back diving 12 months to the day of his heart attack! Gives us great confidence in the hospitals in TRN

Last September husband went to hospital in Girne, injection and prescription and in and out within 1/2 hour. we had to pay for prescription which came to about £20. well pleased.

Took the tablets to our own doctor when we got home and everything was fine.

Dentists here are very good as well. If you are having problems getting in to see an NHS dentist in England, its worth waiting to come out here for a trip and then seeing a dentist.

Had to call 112 for our friend who was staying on New Years Eve. Immediate response, fast and efficient medical care en route to hospital. Team waiting when the ambulance arrived. Saw heart specialist straight away, various blood tests and x-rays, overnight stay (as Daisy Dukes says very basic )

However, the total bill was 100 tl. You could not ask for more

Our son was taken to Girne hospital a couple of years ago. He was kept in for three days and had excellent treatment.

I went to the hospital in Nicosia last year, I saw a consultant urolagist, had x.rays, blood tests, scans and urine tests all done in 2-3hours and left with prescription which cured the problem that had plagued me for months and the UK doctors could not seem to fix.

Excellent service it cost about £300 for everything. The consultant even e.mailed me to give me the final results of the bloods and gave me a letter for my GP.

Would not hesitate to use them again.

Cheap prices indeed.Went to see my doctor 6yrs ago with chest pains.he sent me straight to hospital to see a specialist, who after several tests including angegram, said I needed bypass surgery.was admitted to hospital and visited by surgeon who informed me that I was to have quadruple heart bypass.total time seven days from doctor to operation.Cost £34000.Neverpaid a penny.thats NHS service.I know the price is correct because my wifes cousin went private in the same hospital with the same surgeon 3months later...
