Watch out for those side effects they can be very embarrasing , did'nt know you could buy them over the counter . When i used to run Weight Management Clinics you could only get them on px . Put it this way Dee , fry ups would be a thing of the past . Good luck , Simbas

Dear Dee, re msg 3/ 5 "ordinary dieting doesn't [work] and it makes one plain bloody miserable" Are you SURE you haven't been trying the ordinary approach recently, then ?! "I havent suffered any real bad side effects" Do we have a facility to have a "vote" option on the forum ? ;)

Hi i totally agree i had them in uk under doctor supervision but was absolutley thrilled when i could buy over counter not expensve worth every lira and yes beware little accidents but once you know the tell tale signs its not a problem as im prone to weight gain just started new course 1 week now and waiting, the weight just drops off best thing ever but like any medication etc it has slight down falls always be prepare and if you go out always make sure the first thing you do is locate the toilet you can still eat normal food just remember when you fancy anything naughty i.e. that lovely treat of a fried breakfast just be prepared for extra loo time. THEY ARE GREAT

Dee you must be a medical mystery . They are not supposed to work that way .You should have no side effects at all . If you are , then it is down to the fat content in your diet . Did you consult with a Doctor before you started. But having said all that it was 5yrs ago and i suppose they could have done more research and trials since Regards , Simbas

I am lucky because I can eat what I like without weight gain, I enjoy my food especially the "bad stuff" like fry-ups and big roast dinners etc!! I have often thought how I would cope with having to diet, and I have come to the conclusion that I would be bloody miserable!! I am sure that Dee "knows" her body well, and would seek advice if she had any worries or became ill. Good luck with the diet Dee!!!

"The following side effects occur commonly with the use of Xenical. They are the natural effects of Xenical's fat-blocking action and are actually signs that the medication is working properly. These side effects are usually temporary and may lessen as you continue treatment with Xenical: oily spotting in your undergarments; oily or fatty stools; orange or brown colored oil in your stool; gas with discharge, an oily discharge; loose stools, or an urgent need to go to the bathroom, inability to control bowel movements; an increased number of bowel movements; or stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, rectal pain. Other side effects that may occur while taking Xenical include: problems with your teeth or gums; cold or flu symptoms; headache, back pain; or skin rash or itching. Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome." Sounds an absolute pleasure!

Hector - "sounds an absolute pleasure" - doesn't it just!! I realise I am probably very lucky that I can eat prettry much what I like and don't put on weight, although I think I'd think twice about using Zenecol if I did have a weight problem. The side-effects sound most unpleasant. J

Hi Deecyprus When I was in the Pharmacy in the UK you could get Xenical on prescription and it cost you £6.80 for the months supply, that's what the Doctors would only prescribe at a time, so here they charge 175ytl = £75 for how long one month or 3. That's a hell of a profit, it must be for 3 months would be glad to here, smithy

It does also say that you can control the side effects eventually, knowing what to eat etc, If someone is unhappy about their weight and this works for them, then good luck to them. I bet that more people die from obesity related side effects than these diet pills!!

Lilli Message 10 Alli is Orlistat (drug name for Xenical) but a much lower strength (or at least the OTC version in the UK is). Would recommend any one wanting to try it to go seek medical advice as not given in Uk until patient can first prove they can lose 10lb using "will power" alone. The main aim to to re-train you to eat a sensible low fat diet not just carry on eating the same old rubbish and then rely on the capsules to clean it all out.

Smithy, the cost of the prescription doesn't reflect the actual cost of the drug itself. Whether it costs £5 per mths supply (in actual cost) or £50, the charge on NHS prescription would be the same!!

Denizkisi, I am aware of the differences in the charge of a drug, as I am a Dispensing Chemist, as one Cancer drug could cost over £150 and is given on a prescription, I just wanted to know how many months you would get for the 170ytl. But I have just rang Evren in Catalkoy and it cost 170ytl for 84 tabs. I also know what the Pharmacist pays from their Wholesaler for the drugs, so was interested to find out if they bought it from Turkey.

Message 36 - Smithy - I just re-read what I wrote in my message 35 and it sounded a little pompous, I do apologise!!! I have also just read madmazz's message. If that is correct, could you in theory make a mths supply last longer than a month?

Hi Denizkisi, Never need to apologies to me, I'm fine Yes you can make a months supply last a lot longer, if you have a day that you only lets say have a salad and chicken then don't take a tablet, why waste one when you don't have much fat intake then there wont be a lot of fat to come out (pardon the pun) I would think anyone would know if they have overdone the fatty foods, and don't be surprised as what comes out as it not a pretty sight, very slimy, hope no one is eating their dinner, but you get used to all this. so the 84 Tabs in the box for 170ytl = 12 wks you could eke them out. Not sure here if they do a monthly box as for most of the people here its a lot to lay out at one go. I will find out when I pop to see my Pharmacist friend.

Hi Dee Why take any tabs if you eat a fat free meal, save them for when you do, or if you over indulge and eat out, as they cook with a lot of oil over here, also you wont have anything to pass through you, at that price take one every other day

Dee i have read all the comments and like you i am more than (prepared to put up with the oily squits as they so call it ) happy to take the tablets they work. I do not like salad but i love rice and pasta and good traditional foods but i have one comment to make not everyone unfortunatley can control there weight, other medical probs like under active thyroid and low metabolism hyreditory factors do not help i have seeked medical advise and xenical works for me like everything if it works go for it do it if not then find another alterative i have no objection to pay out 170 + lira, as if you lose the weight and it makes you feel good about yourself well i can see no problem with that.

Hi dee well done i only started mine a week ago but last time i took them which was quite few yrs ago i lost 6 stone and having been 15 and 1/2 stone i went down from size 24 to 12 admittingly i cannot give the tablets all the credit as i lost first two stone on my own but the tablets then helped me shift the stubborn weight. when you get down to a certain weight and no matter what you do you cant shift it but like one comment yes under medical advise you have to prove you can start to loose the weight first before they will let you take xenical mmmmmmmmmmm strange way the medical profesion work but hey lets go for it dee the thought to be of a satisfactory weight that suits us and makes us happy and feeling good about ourselves roll on the summer

Hi dee something else to mention not only does it clense your body inside like a detox but it clenses the outside as well so what if you get a few spots its only the bad toxins way of getting out. Also just think we dont have to worry about that bad excrement stored inside the body as its like you say just flushed away so body totally clensed for 170 + lira cheaper than any health farm and more fun eat what you want, do what you want and be slim and when you have got to your goal stop taking them what more can one say gonna follow this with you dee see how much we both manage to loose good luck.

Hi Deecyprus Not working anymore gave up the pharmaceutical world and came to the TRNC nearly 5 years ago but sometimes I miss the work force and the company. Getting back to the Tabs I have taken them but would still advise whatever they say to 1 per day, and it did the job, now its the gym and a lot of hard work, pus at £70 for just over a month is still a lot of money now. But good luck and let us know how you get on smithy

Ladies......and gentlemen.Orlistat or Xenical has been a licensed slimming medication in the UK for years now.Side effects can be quie common,in my experience, and it only works in certain people. The cost is about £35/month in the UK.....if you had to pay for a private script! It can only be accessed on prescription in the UK and is used as an ADJUNCT for people who are already losing weight as part of a balanced programme, involving lifestyle issues and diet.

I bought some from the chemist in Alsancak last month. 42 tablets I think for about 80ish lira. Took them for 2 weeks. I do eat fairly healthly anyway. Absolutely no side effects whatsoever. No signs I was taking them, if you know what I mean. Had fish and chips to see if that would kick start anything. Nothing. Weighed myself after 2 weeks. Put 2lb on. Someone said maybe I had got "pirate ones".

HI again, Dee re msg 63! I see you've commented re Greenmans' link to the US info on Cyprus, and wondering when you'll "fess up" that the "crap" I posted re Mosques in the "south" is backed up in the report... I've even highlighted it for you.. msg 2 http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/11490.asp Is "I'm sorry, I was wrong" - and something you promised to tell us - so hard to say ?!

Coachie what a small minded and imbecilic little man you are...at least I am not full of crap...something you cannot claim to be... God give me strength to deal with life's irritants...now go pour yourself another drink and try harder to insult me because as of yet you are failing spectacularly...

Dear LadyJessic, re msg 76 I most humbly apologise for daring to post in "your" thread.. I realise, now, all your posts are serious ( Darts matches fracas) and I would never "dare" remind Dee, about her howlers re no Mosques in the south and her promise to apologise on such an important thread again.. I could point out that regular exercise and a healthy life-style might be more beneficial but that would spoil the "fun".

I didnt have time to read all the postings, will get back to them tomorrow, may have been mentioned already. Side effects can be REALLY embarrassing, my doctors wife tried them, while shopping one day, she said she felt something oooze down her leg, orange colored oil, that you cant get out of clothes, when i heard that I lost total interest in even trying it. I also have family members that have tried them and they too had similiar experience. If you eat fatty food side effects get worse. Stick to a regular diet and exercise, quick weight loss will always come back, if Oprah ( with all her billions and private chefs and trainers)cant keep it off, what chance do we pion's have? I am now trying the "dieters tea, tastes good, keeps you extremely regular and gets rid of some of the fatty oils. I will be over in august and can put a few boxes in my baggage if anyone is interested. http://fashiondrv.stores.yahoo.net/dietherteabr4.html
