Sorry for those not interested.

Can anyone tell me the correct name of the 'magnets' you can buy from Boots to help with the symptoms of the menopause. I had thought they were called Ladycare but can't find them on the Boots website.

I had read about them on this site but can't find the posting.

Thanks

les

Turtle I do believe Men have a Menopause of sorts too, for Lady's this is very, very scary, uncomfortable, and uncontrollable. Spare a thought is all I ask.

Well this is a serious subject and I would like to keep an open mind about this magnet treatment but I must be classed as an sceptic. I cannot see how a magnet can lead to such relief except the pyscological effect. I googled the subject but all I could find was marketting talk and I could not find any serious research with control groups. Does anybody have any solid facts about this treatment?

I take HRT and swear by it, if I didnt I would be swearing at everyone else..seriously, I know a lot of women are scared to take it because of the negatives and I am not dismissing them, HRT works for me. Hot flushes etc and I had a really tough time with them..also they protect against brittle bone...for the women who don't take them just think about this, one minute we are told butter is bad for us then it is ok, likewise with wine and many many other things.

There are women who can't take them and that to me is awful, I just couldn't cope without them.

I just wish men had to suffer it as well, they would be more understanding.

Ismet, I think with the Menopause, it's a case of 'whatever works for the individual.' If you are going through it, you will try anything! Trying alternative therapy, can be more helpful than HRT which a GP would offer, as long as all blood test's have been taken and all health issues have been examined, there is no reason not to try an 'alternative.'

Dee, message 12, thank you for the frank and helpful post, at least you know what it's like. I am glad that HRT work's for you, like you said it doesn't work for everyone.

britvic, only us women can understand how unpleasant the menopause can be, I do sometimes feel that men get away lightly with a lot of stuff..an example

Mamograms to test for breast cancer, any woman who has had this done will agree with me how painful it is.

Testicular cancer..if men had to place their testies in one of these they would very quickly have found a pain free method...

Am I right ladies?

Dee, msg 12, I think a lot of us men, if we're honest, do also suffer from the menopause.

We often have to be the 'punchbag' for our loved ones who are going through it.

We don't go through the tough times personally, but have to be there and understanding of the mood swings, anger, frustration, and quietly pick up the broken crockery etc.

Rob I am sure that some men do understand and are supportive of their partners..but many are not...and that is in part half the problem...if only all men were like you. I must add my partner is supportive although I was already taking HRT when we met so he wasn't put to the test lol.

I think there is a pain free examination method for breast cancer too. I was taught how to do a physical examination by hand for my lady

The other point is this: why do you expect everything from men? Surely ladies are free to discover pain free methods as well. where is equality of sexes for you? I say equality in pay but also equality in responsibility!!!

Now I am off into hiding

Ismet no need to hide...you are a lovely man who cares greatly about women and that is to be commened..sadly when a lump is discovered we are sent straight for a mamogram ..and yes women should discover these things as well

I too swear by HRT. My symptoms, both physical and psychological, were dreadful. Couldn't sleep because of the hot flushes; that in itself wears you down. Had the flushes all day as well as at night time. I think Mr Wick will attest to the throwing crockery, chasing him with a knife, etc. etc. I did try alternative methods to try and control these before starting HRT, but they did not work for me at all. Ladies - how many of us have said "Is it me, or is it hot in here"? LOL

Deecyprus4 - which Dr did you go to here in TRNC to get the HRT ? I thought about going to chemist but have heard there are different types and dosages.

Kim, message 23, it really is best to get medical help from a Doctor for this, and I think your right there are different dosages, some people can get away with wearing a patch. I think Dee will agree with me here in my saying a GP would be the best person to see in the first instance.

By the way, I am not going through this awful thing at the moment, but I know someone who is suffering incredibly with the 'flushes' it seem's these can't be taken lightly and are unpleasant to say the least.

I would like to thank everyone for keeping this subject 'ridicule free' and seeing it for the serious post it is.

I would definitely agree with britvic - it's very important to seek advice from a Doctor. You will need to have your blood presssure monitored on a regular basis for one thing and indeed, there are a number of dosages and different types of HRT, so you will need to find out what's the best one for you.

the2ofus, I originally got my prescription from my doctor is the UK, that was 10 years ago, now I just buy them in the chemist in catalkoy and visit my doctor when back in the uk...I am on the lowest dose as I am supposed to be stopping them gradually, I take Kliovance...hope that helps.

You can also get HRT patches and Gel, these might be better than taking tablets. You do need to see a Doctor and get advice.

Dee - I've been on HRT for around 9 years now, and I find that I am perfectly OK taking Premique every other day. Periodically, I stop taking it all together (on the advice of my GP) but unfortunately after around a month, the dreaded hot sweats and tiredness kick in again. For me, it's been an absolute Godsend - I think Paul would agree - he's no longer in fear for his life!

Will e-mail you tomorrow.

Best wishes
