hi, we use the one in the big house on the main road, sorry not sure of the Name...he has always been very good, the dog hates going, but they just laugh when they see her now,she is so large, and wants a good go at him,....its a shame that just one vet down town gets all the costom, yes maybe good but its a long way to go in an emergancy like we have needed to do twice...and like i said very good.....

He saved my dog`s life when he was poisoned. Our vet in town was too busy as she was operating and we had to get him to the nearest. Good choice.

Does anybody knows if any of these doctors/clinics are reachable as well on weekends or in the evenings if there is any case of emergency?

Thanks

We phoned Vet Ahmet on a Sunday evening when some kind person dumped two tiny puppies in a half built house. The phone will always be answered and I'm pretty sure that Ahmet would be available in an emergency.

We've got a vet in town we've been happy with so far, but as we live in karsiyaka, i thought good for emergencies, but if they're going to mess things up, then even in an emergency it's not worth it! seems no one has used them though.

peppa

just because nobody else uses them it doesn't make them bad.

we are the only brits to use our vet and he is super.

just introduced some friends and they also are very happy with him.

don't go with the flow make up your own mind.

It's only been open a couple of weeks so it's not surprising no-one has used them yet. Perhaps you could go and do a site visit Peppa and report back

I went in there yesterday looking for a collar for my little girl. They never had one big enough to fit her fat neck but were very helpful; and have offered to try and get me one.

I am happy with my vet in town but if an emergency ever arose then Garfield would be the closest to me and i would go there.

I'm sorry but I took a stray kitten that I had taken it to this vet as the kitten was in a terrible state, could hardly breathe. He examined it with a stethescope & said he had liver problems. I assumed he meant lung problems. He asked me to come back each day for the next week & gave it an injection each day. At the end of the week, I paid him 120 ytl, he said to come back in 15 days if no better, the kitten could hardly walk or breathe, he was 10 times worse than when I first took him, would never have lasted that long! I took it to Ferdez? behind Pia Bella who TOOK HIS TEMPERATURE! X-RAYED him & took SAMPLES. The poor thing had fluid on his lungs & phneumonia. he was treated for THREE weeks and it worked out less than the other vet, even with x-rays, injections, worming etc! She saved his life. Guess you know which vet I use now.

Should say "used", after all the poor thing had been through, I had him for a further 9 months until someone poisoned him & threw him into a half filled pool.

Yes, just had cat speyed there. They were very reasonable price wise and we even had a phone call from them to see how she was, something we never had in the UK.

One of our dogs had a problem with one of her eyes so we took her to the new vet's clinic - Garfield. The vet doesn't speak much English but has an assistant who speaks perfect English. The vet seems to be very thorough and caring - would definitely go back.

we opted for our vet as in the uk we found the best vets were those who also were equestrian/ farm animal trained as well.

our vet is great and is also well respected in the local community as he works with the police drug dogs and army bomb dogs.

i also wonder if he has a magic wand as well sometimes.

highly recommended.

he is mustafa and is at gonyeli.

I have used Firdez, always found her to be really good and obviously loves the animals. Ahmet is nearer, but after a bad experience I don't think my dog would ever forgive me if I ever went back in there.

Has anyone heard if one of the vets mentioned above has no qualifications to prove he/she is a vet?

I heard this, but as most things in "The Goldfish Bowl" I don't know if it's true.

I'm sorry to put it this way, and I appreciate some may think I'm also gossiping, but I couldn't think of another way to ask.

I wouldn't recognise a certificate in Turkish, so I couldn't establish the truth either way.

pinkchilli,

Allegedly it is the one in big house at side of road. Heard from several sources, he can run a vets clinic but is not licensed to operate etc.

Check with KAR if you wish that to be confiremed, they do not recommend him!!

We use Pertev round from HSBC, excellent.

Mustafa from Gonyeli literally brought my dog back from near death due to the antics of a pair of vets. I would not go past this veterinary genious, and a very caring, knowledgeable man to boot. Animal first, owners second, bills last, and a very small price to pay for a miracle. Well worth the extra journey from Kyrenia or Catalkoy!

We have only ever used Firdez by the Pia Bella, she is very professional, competent and willing to come out late at night for poison cases. Lovely lady.

I had also heard the one on main road, past HomeFront on other side is not qualified.

We used to use a guy in Lefkosa but now use Pertev and he's been great so far. Touch wood not needed anything major though.

all vets ie, Firdez, mustafa etc, MUST have a licence! considering there are so many expats now living in the north you should all insist on seeing there qualifications which like any doctor usually have them on the wall, if no one is happy about the vet or believes they ae not genuine they should report them to KAR so they can take it further. Firdez i have heard about & i would NOT take any of my pets to her, cruel is only one word i would use....

I am sure I will be the first of many to comment on your observations of Firdez.

As you have obviously never met or had any dealings with this vet and are postings your comments on what you have heard let me assure you that Firdez is one of the most compassionate people when it comes to animals.

Her dedication is next to none and is the vet for KAR who I personally know speak very highly of her.

I would suggest before you attack an individual you back your claim up with evidence.

i meet up with lots of vets in the line of duty so to speak.

so it would be unfair for me to comment, you can only speak as you find through experiences.

we have had good and bad vets in the uk and i think the best way if your not happy is to act with your feet and go elsewhere.

all our pets are precious to us, we have a duty to them to do the best we can.

after all they can't speak!

I can only agree with what puppylover has said. Firdez so clearly loves the animals she treats.

Firdez is the most efficient knowledeable and, perhaps most importantly, compassionate Vets we have ever used, both here and in UK.Our blind diabetic Westie adores her,Firdezs treatment and advice have been second to none,in fact her management advice on the diabetes has improved Mollys quality of life immensely, and she deals with every crisis or even minor query with dedication, humour and love.I would trust Firdez with all our lives not just our dogs!!!
