For your morning coffee... It was reported on the news wires yesterday that a large asteroid big enough to destroy London outright passed by/ missed the Earth by just 44,000 miles on Monday. In astronomical terms this is inches, actually... millimetres! If the asteroid had hit it would have exploded with the same force as 1000 atomic bombs, similar to the one that hit Tunguska in Siberia, where forests where destroyed for a 2000 mile radius. Strange but ... the asteroid passed on Monday, the scientists revealed the news yesterday and it was first discovered last Saturday... so they waited to tell us Tuesday? It was not governments who released the information but bloggers on a scientific website... is this scary or what? If you have seen the movie Armegeddon... you will know what I mean? Regards Joseph

Hi Joseph, Saw that on the news, thought at the time it was a bit odd, telling us after the event. As you say it was a close call, some cars I've had in the past have had more than 44,000 miles on them, so in theory, it would be possible to drive out meet to it!!! And at the speed it would have been going at, it wouldn't have taken long to reach Earth, if it had a wee nudge on the way, or someone got their calculations wrong. What other little secrets are floating around out there, bring back Mulder & Scully. Makes you wonder about the global credit crunch, is it spend spend spend. The end is nigh. Not even enough time to boil an egg. Have a nice day Navek

An asteroid which may be as big as a ten-storey building has passed close by the Earth, astronomers say. The object, known as 2009 DD45, thought to be 21-47m (68-152ft) across, raced by our planet at 1344 GMT on Monday. The gap was just 72,000 km (44,750 miles); a fifth of the distance between our planet and the Moon. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7921279.stm

I rang deepthroat yesterday just to check what contingency plans the government had should the asteroid have hit London. He revealed... Flash Gordon was in America Harmon was abroad but just for the weekend Milliband was in the middle east on a quick visit Straw ... well no one could find him as his mobile was off Mandelson... well this is a family forum so I cannot repeat his retort. They were all away. Only Joking... Regards Joseph

When the Jews return to Sion When a comet rips the sky When the Roman Empire rises Then you and I must die From the Eternal Sea he rises Creating armies either shore Turning man against his brother Til man exists no more Scholars agree that the Eternal Sea is politics and believe The Roman Empire in this instance refers to the Treaty of Rome and formation of EU. Interesting? Regards Joseph

| For Spider to enjoy "Little Spider happy there...waiting patiently Jack Frost has dusted down your web for those who'd chance to see What artist could have held that pen...what poet could have said The lines a little spider spins... along his deadly web? For RobnJo... message from dptt That tells the final line 's near drawn Of Armageddon once was warned When once a prince did Heaven fell Becoming he... the king of Hell For souls the battle closes in Twixt Heaven's grace and Satan's sin Know these signs of mystic ways Now come our times... these End of Days. For Clarets, my view of those pair I must believe... but have no trust In those who won't... but say they must With twisted words... that come out straight Like honest men... yet hide their hate Hope it brings a smile?
