New to the forum. We purchased a villa near Esenteppe having fallen in love with the TRNC and can't wait till it's completed. We are hoping for completion soon as it's now two month overdue. Is this the norm then? Not too worried at the mo but I've asked my solicitor to contact the developer to bring us up to speed. We want to ship some furniture over in May. Is it cheaper to buy furnishings there? I can see there is a wealth of info on this forum, but also a lot of pages!! I'm all ears....lol

Hi Sanddancer Welcome to the forum. Our house is in Esentepe. Where are you? With regard to the furniture here goes. Large electrical goods, buy here. Most of the named products you get in UK (assuming you are from the UK) are available here. Don't forget to haggle. Always ask for best price and compare with other shops that sell the same products. Furnishings. Depends on what you want and how much you want to spend. There are plenty of furniture shops in an around Girne. Nicosia is cheaper. Electric lamps, lightshades etc are expensive over here so if you plan to bring over a container put them in that. Cost of a container depends on the size you want to bring over but expect to pay around £5k. Karen Karen

welcome Sanddancer as soon as I saw the name thought agh a lad from South Shields. My wife karen and I have a property in Esentepe and hope to relocate thier in couple of years time. We bought furniture from all over the place a couple of years ago, and think since then there is a lot more choice, but you have to shop around. We have been both sides of Nicosia in search of furniture and found many stores deliver. We have decided though to get a container and ship our furniture over with us. If i was you I would wait till your property is all up and running electric etc before shipping your furniture out as I have seen so many people having to put furniture in storage waiting for their place to be finished. Hope you get moved in soon and like previously stated many people will gladly give you advice on where to buy from and indeed shipping companies to get your property over in good order. Hope all goes well, for what must be an exciting time although housemoving is stressful, good luck.

Got it in one Jarra... South Shields...what can I say with a name like yours...lol Thanks all for your info. Our property is just down from the village. You take the main turn up to the village, and about half way up there is a turn left into the site. Paul, we have bought through Cyprus Bay properties. Ours is only a small developement with only (I think) 15 villas on it with superb views out to sea. You can walk into the village in 3 mins from the site. Like you Jarra, Helen and I intend to relocate in few years all going well. In the meantime it will act as our holiday home. Thanks for your input Karen. We are due out in May so we will have a mooch around in some furniture shops. Anyway, nice to meet you all. Watch this space as they say. David

Sundancer We shipped furniture over last October and the cost of a container was about £2000.00 including insurance. It arrived on time as advised and was brought through by the Shippers to our house in Malayta. Regards Sue

Hi lippylush. Thanks for that. Could you give me any more details of who you used? We are concerned that we may not be able to fill a container and have heard that there may be possible to share one. Any more info would be appreciated. David

Its quite nice to hear that there are people who have bought in Esentepe, as so many seem to live the other side of Girne. We too have bought near Esentepe, and should be ready Jan 09 if not earlier. LL

This is really good to hear. It'll be lovely to see all of the "shells" along the main road and up the hill be completed and eventually lived in. Only problem I can see is planners haven't given much thought to retail units which would be nice to have along the main road. I know we have quite a few in Esentepe but it would be nice to have a few more around. Karen

Orangekazzie Our builder had originally planned to build 2 retail units on the roadside after he had built our villas (10 in all), whether he is still planning to do this I do not know. LL

I too have bought near Esenteppe at Bahceli, site of 15 villas close to the sea, at present everything seems to be at the other side of Girne but am sure our area will grow quickly once more people move to the area, it seems that a lot of us north easterners are moving there.
