An opinion poll carried out by pollster KADEM for Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris has put the right-wing National Unity Party (UBP) clearly in the lead in the race for the coming general elections in the north on April 19, predicting it would win 43.3 per cent of the vote. The ruling Republican Turkish Party (CTP) will win only 28.3 per cent, the poll predicted. The poll had questioned 1,378 Turkish Cypriots on how they intended to vote. It also said 13.4 per cent of respondents were as yet undecided on who to vote for.

is it they know which way they would vote already?

Or have they been ordered to class them as TCs?

ilovecyprus,

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but if the UBP were to win the election, how would this effect the talks. I understand the UBP are against reunification.

Thanks

The elected leader of the Turkish Cypriots will stay as president and will continue with the talks, as he is committed to a solution. Even if the UBP get in, which will be a tragedy for the Turkish Cypriots but good news for settlers, the talks should be unaffected.

The UBP are after 2 separate federated states - hurray. With the figures posted today I cannot see that the Turkish Cypriots feel it would be a tragedy.

could be that there are now more mainlanders classing themselves as cypriots.. no wonder the polls are high for the UBP, WHAT a disaster for the real genuine tcs who want a solution.

TRNC citizens including native TC and mainland settlers and others voted FOR a solution that would have limited the amount of Turkish mainlanders that would have been granted Cypriot citizenship to a list of 35,000 and they did so whilst UBP was in power and Denktash was president.

"no wonder the polls are high for the UBP"

Are you seriously suggesting that the only possible explaination for the apparent increase in support for UBP since CTP came to power is that there has been a sudden increase in the number of Turkish mainlanders that have been granted TRNC citizenship since 2005?

Erolz ,shouldnt take too much notice of the word "fact" in one of Juliets postings, you wouldn't think that the two make good bedfellows, its more likely to be a snipit of divine gossip from a hypnotic article from the International bible of truth " Mein Cyprus Kampf Weekly "
