Should we stop eating other animals? After all animals are our evolutionary cousins and like us they can feel pleasure and pain. Is it wrong to farm and kill these animals for food when we do not need to do so?

I love animals as well, but would not consider becoming a vegetarian. I don't think that mass vegetarianism would be a good idea. What would happen to all those farmed animals? Where would they go? What would they eat? We would need to cull them in order to turn over their grazing areas to grain and vegetable production, and even then the amount of agricultural land available wouldn't support all human beings. Than theres the cats and dogs? What will they eat? They are designed by nature to be carnivores, not fed on cereals and grains plumped up with God knows what chemicals and suppliments to keep them semi-healthy. (but then again - some are now, if they are on a dried food diet)!! I suppose we could all live on Shepherds pie for a while - after all, we'd have to do something with all those out of work shepherds I suppose!!! lol!!

I love animals, I also love the taste of good quality meat. Just like many of our 'evolutionary cousins' there are the herbivores and the omnivores. I think everyone has a choice and that is the natural way. On a similar note I cannot stand eating meat that has come from a battery farm style upbringing. As in the wild it should be a fresh as possible and as naturally occurent as possible

denizkisi, using land to grow plants, to feed to animals, to feed humans is grossly inefficient - I think your arguement falls down a little there, because 20 vegetarians can live off the land required by one meat eater - see - http://www.flex.com/~jai/articles/101.html. Having said that, I myself make a point of only eating animals that were vegetarians... Keith.
