Should the seriously ill be allowed to 'buy' a Human Organ to save their Life?

Is it not unreasonable that the seriously ill be entitled to spend their own money on saving their own lives.? Is it preferable that some individuals receive organs, and survive, than none at all?

Or will the opportunity for those unable to afford to purchase to receive a donated organ be eliminated.?

I think the problem is the shortage of donated organs. Do you mean buy them from people or buy ones already donated if there is a match. I hope that the need for people unable to afford them will never be eliminated. I worked for Kidney Research and was instrumental in setting up the donor card and I know how difficult it is to obtain organs. It breaks my heart here with all the road accidents how many good organs get buired.

Hippo is donating his organ when he throws off his mortal coil.

On a more serious note the sale and purchase of organs is ethically and morrally wrong.

It takes advantage of poor people in that in the main they would be the donars.

yes hippo and it would create more pressure on the nhs as the donor would also need an operation for removal also after care. xx

if i could help a family member i would.

i don't agree with people paying for organs.

the flip side is that if you were about to die, would you or wouldn't you pay for one?

if i were younger and had a young family i think my answer would be yes i would pay for one.

now i am a little older and my sons are adults probably not.

personal circumstances do come into it, right or wrong.

people like george best never deserved a transplant, what a waste.

I agree fire starter. Morally it's wrong. However if it was a matter if life and death and it was for one of my family I would not think twice about paying for one.

I read somewhere recently that it won't be long before organs can be cloned from skin cells. No chance of rejection, a perfect match every time. Lets hope its sooner rather than later...... As for buying an organ, I agree with 6 + 7.

They are already expermenting with pigs who have organs very similar to ours. I dont know if I would having worked within a national charity that emcompassed 27 other organ charties but i guess if it was for a family member and there was a match then i guess it would be a yes. This will make me a hyopcriate as I was insturmental in starting the donor card. But and I know I should not start a sentance with that would people actually sell them Think of the matching etc would a hospital actually emove them for payment I dont think so. Please if you beleive strongly then carry the card.

It is happening in India now apparently... and as usual it is the poorest who are being taken advantage of...

Panorama did a program about this very subject couple of months ago...

People selling their kidneys for a few pounds ( a lot if you are poor) and the organ then shipped out and sold for thousands. Despicable.
