After reading quite a few negative posts about buying / living in TRNC I would like to ask " where on earth would you rather be " ( apart from UK ) ?

Next door to macha.

Park the family caravan next door and let the 12 kids play in his garden whilst I'm out collecting rubbish from sites.

Ok I live in the English Lake District and am biased because I think its one of the best places on earth. Scenery, mountains (you can climb in a day), country pubs, historic towns, glorious lakes and fantastic people.

But apart from here, Brisbane great city perfect climate, Sri Lanka near Galle fort a house on the beach temperature 29 - 30oC every day of the year. New Zealand in the Summer Mountains to climb, and a city break in Hongkong.

Of course in May the Scottish Highlands Applecross walking on the beach looking at the mountains of Skye

don't mind me asking whereabouts in the Lake District do you live. I used to live in Ambleside. Love to go back there but I think a tad expensive now.

Hi Quarmby

South lakes

We live near Bowland Bridge, which is about 3 miles from Windermere and 5 miles from Grange over sands, and Kendal. Very quite (boring my sons would say) nice pub.

Often in ambleside the dog loves loughrigg fell, lots of tourists of course some days half of Japan sees to be there. But it has that timeless quality, the grey stone terrace houses under shadow of the mighty Fairfield horseshoe and always that something about it, a buzz. Lots of smart shops and restaurants now.

You’re right it’s expensive even with property prices dropping nothing really under £225,000. Hard for local first time buyers.

thanks for that, before I came to the TRNC I was living in Silverdale a really beautiful place and a good place to live. It was interesting when we lived there the salt flats at Silverdale were about 150 metres to the sea or should I say to the river Kent estuary and when we left they had shrunk to about 50 metres. I was told that this happens about every 100 years and the flats end up at Grange over sands, has this happened ?

Can only agree, beautiful spot you were lucky to live there, many happy hours spent walking on the shore or picnicking at Jenny Browns point.

No expert on the sands scared stiff of them to be honest, ever since I saw a young man get stuck maybe 10m of the end of the pier at arnside 10 fireman took 4 hours to get him out, with the tide coming in fast and the water up to his waist. I believe though that as the Kent switches its course so do the sands. There was a story recently on the local news about a farmer at sandside who had lost 150acres of salt marsh ( very valuable as sheep grazing ) to the sea. He was philosophical about it saying that one of his neighbours would benefit as there land increases.

I would love to live on the beautiful Italian island of Ischia. Had a fantastic holiday there a few years ago in a wonderful villa right on the sea. The food is sublime.

Hector - I'm with you on this one. Just disembark when you fancy it. Waited on hand and foot, nothing too much trouble. Yes - would definitely suit me down to the ground!!

Hector. FULL TIME CRUISE.

Instead of a nursing home book on a cruise.

As many meals a day if you can waddle to the restaraunt or have room service which means you can have breakfast in bed every day of the week.

Three swimming pools, workout room, free washers & dryers and shows every night.

Free toothpaste, razors soap & shampoo.

They treat you like a customer & not a patient.

You will get to meet new people every 7 -14 days.

T.V broken? Light bulb needs changing? need to have the mattress replaced? no problem they fix everything and apologise for your inconvenience.

Clean sheets & towels every day, you don't have to ask for them.

If you fall in a nursing home and beak your hip you are on Medicare, if you fall & break your hip on board they will upgrade you to a suite for the rest of your life.

Don't look for me in a nursing home.

P.S. and don't forget when you die, they just dump you over the side at no charge.

Well If I could not live in the TRNC anymore then It would be South Africa, down on the Garden Route.
