More than 1,000 serving police officers in Britain have criminal convictions, the Liberal Democrats have reported. More than half of the 1,063 convictions relate to speeding or other motoring offences; 77 officers have convictions for violence and 96 for dishonesty.

Does the release of these figures undermine confidence in policing?

Dunno about that, but I do think that if police officers in Cyprus had to own up to their criminal activities there would be a lot more than 1000 convictions, pro rata.

Not so sure that in reality the motor convictions count and it depends on how the figures are reached.

eg if a policeman has 9 points on his licence for fixed penalties does that count as 3 convictions?

Subjectively... I hate being stopped for going 10mph too fast or whatever and especially with all the "spy-taxing" cameras

Objectively... these guys and girls put their lives on the line for us and deserve our unqualified support.

This adds up to a tiny percentage of Police numbers. As it is an MP making the point, the figures for politicians (who enact the laws) would be fascinating.
