Last night 4 government officials entered a bar and asked whose uk car it was outside. They then told the man that the car duty had not been paid and said it can not be driven. They then impounded a GC registered car which was also outside. The car was taken on the back of a truck. So beware thae are on the prowl. I dont know any other information than this.

It was in the Alsancak area at around 4pm. The GC car was owned by a business man.

Hi, I was that soldier...

Customs picked me up and the options were to drive to the Nicosia pound or they tow it away. - did so and they confiscated the keys and locked the car up.

My fault I had omitted to get the yellow import form validated at the 30 days, was fined 480 ytl and had to pay the import duty there and then to get the car back.

Re south registered cars, they said they were taking off the road cars registered in the south that were in the North "too" regularly, showing that the owners were really residents not holidaymakers on a 90 day visa as their ins & outs indicated that they were using the recurrent 90 day loophole to pretend they did not reside North.

One couple of my knowledge have just been ordered to get their car out of the north, had there and then to return it to the south garage and accept a pittance

Not too much sympathy with these people who play one off against the other, get residency and dont try to scam them, they are better at it than us

'Were you breathalysed (seeing as how the car was parked outside a bar)?'

Why would Customs be interested in breathalysing people?
