What are the Laws?

I know Gordon posted some info a little while back, but now even your local barbers, a bastian for a good fog-bound shave, has signs up, banning smoking.

Perhaps, members can post the businesses that "think" smoking is not allowed now.

As for someone being cynical about this, honestly you ex pat brits, 'little britain' and all that, thinking that despite the no smoking law not coming until 2010, that the local constabulary, ever quick off the mark, are busy fining businesses for allowing smoking or ordinary people (especially those that look like they can afford it I think I hear you thinking) for smoking.

The Grumpy Grouse propreitor says that he has to ban smoking now as he serves food and if he is caught with customers smoking they get fined and so does he. As a non smoker I have to say I am in favour of the ban.

Hi Pink We had the smoking police in a couple of weeks ago with NO Smoking posters. the fine for smoker is 120tl and 1200 Tl for owner. I asked if it start 2010 and was told practice run but we can fine you. Gordon said hey cant but I beleive The Ravine had a fie. So now to stay within the law we have banned it in the restaurant. It wont make any difference when we are back outside but for now Im sorry for the smokers to go outside. As yet nobody has minded.

I think its dreadful that they are threatening to fine people when the new law for smoking doesn't comes into force until 2010

When I arrived at Guido's most of the women were outside having a cigarette when I asked Liz she said she has been warned and will have to pay a high fine, what a disgrace that someone is taking the law and twisting it, if the New Law is 2010 then why punish Owners who are having a hard enough time now by making new rules.

We still enjoyed the day it was great, but this stress should never be put on Owners.

Sheila - if I am lucky enough to be in TRNC for one of the get-together lunches (next over in June) at least I'll still be able to have a fag, as it will be warm enough to sit outside (probably too warm). Unless, of course, by then they will be imposing fines for smoking outside as well (wouldn't be surprised!)

Shame on you for that brandy consumption!!! Never catch me drinking the stuff (much).

Kind regards.

Sheila - looking forward to it already!

kellybelly - sound advice. Gave up a few years ago, with the help of nicotine patches, for 2 years. Piled on the weight, got very fed up and started again!! I am assuming from your profile that you are a man - when a man puts on weight, he just buys bigger clothes, when we women put on weight, we panic/get depressed/feel frumpy!!!

Still, very good advice, plus, it's not only bad for our health, it's bloody expensive.

Regards

Jean Whyworry about a bit of weight.I am sure Paul will still like you what ever size you go to.I only put on 4 stone when I stopped, but some of it is due to some of the medication I take. Its swings and round abouts Jean.If the fags dont get youthe extra weight will. But if you stop you will smell alot sweeter and you can smell and taste things much betteras wll.Go give it another go .I am over in June for 2 weeks....

Went to Stevies bar a few weeks ago, fantastic food, lovely people. The smoke was disgusting,my eyes were sore, and the membranes in my nose irritated.

We left as soon as we finished our smokey bacon.

Coachie, it's not Jean who has to worry about her weight & I've got no excuse I have not given up anything, perhaps that's the trouble. We will also be there in June from the 7th till the 29th.

Msg 14 what a condescending idiot you are...I am sure Jean smells very nice all the time...maybe you should lose a bit of weight before June as it will be very hot here and you will probably smell quite bad carrying all that weight..

Hi Dee - Thanks for your comment about me smelling nice!! ( Miss Dior). I agree, reformed smokers do sometimes get a bit patronising. However, in Coachie's case, I believe he had to pack up smoking because he had a very serious heart condition and had to have a major operation.

Hope you're both well.

Dee, You have forgotten Rule 3 again I see, do you have to be so rude and personal, it does you no favours. Coachie is entitled to his opinion the same as anyone else.

The wicks..I was not trying to be condescending in anywave shape or form, merely trying to give encourage ment on the benefits of giving up.One of youdid say that you had stopped for 2 yrs and then started again and I can understand why you did.My eldest girl gave up for 6yrs and started again for exactly the same reasons as you did.Believe me there aretimes when I would love a smoke but it passesvery Quickly.People can smoke there heads off for me,thats their choice as long as they accept that I do not have to die because of their inconsideration.I will say that I think we should have smoking/non smoking bars and that would solve all the problems..

Coachie - message 23 - no offence taken whatsoever.

PS It was me (Jean) that gave up and started again. Paul has never smoked and really wishes I'd give up (again).

Jean I know where he is coming from! My wife gave up 30yrs ago and spent the next 25 trying to get me to stop but like all smokers I will give up when I want to.As you rightly said I had to have major heart surgery which certainly makes you give up if you want to live abit longer.I do not have a heart problem it was the plumbing that was all clogged up,but sound as a pound now.Just have to try and loose abit of weight he said who likes eating for England. We are over for the same period so you never know might bump into one another,as longing as we are walking at the time..

No problem Coachie, but don't sink to her level again, it's not your style. I just get so fed up with the personal and aggressive remarks no matter what subject is being discussed, I wonder if it's worth posting anymore.
