I heard today that if you import a car you can keep it here indeffinatetly IF

1) You dont spend more than 365 days here over a 2 year period.

2) You get your vehicle exemption papers stamped EVERY 3 months.

Yes rules change every day here. July 2008 brought over 2004 Fiat car. Told had one year to pay import duty. Now changed, been told have to pay import immediately. £700 which is quarter of the value of the car plus £1300 that goes to the Turkish Army. If I had known I would never have brought car with me. Best of luck.

Last year when I imported my commercial vehicle, which your Toyota will be clased as, the age limit was 12 years old........ the 3 and 5 year rule is for private cars only.

Commercials are treated in a totally different way. You have to pay the duty almost immediately when they are cleared through customs etc, they gave me 10 days I think to settle up.

Hope this helps.

to import a commercial vehicle dont you have to have a registered tax paying company here.

craig2356 you beat me to it.

At last check to either purcahse or import such a vehicle you have to be in business.

I believe Rose has it right, do not bother trying.

our 4x4 came in when it was still allowed to be a private car, when we got here it was tax paid on arrival, straight away.

they have changed the rules since then.

but they are classed as commercial.
