None of the Hotels around the harbour could be classed as "upmarket" though many are very good.

The nearest to upmarket would be the Majestic Hotel, just outside the village. A little further (15km) Salamis Conti Hotel.

Have always found the restaurant overlooking the harbour to be nice, especially their fresh fish, but it ain't cheap. I am talking about the one on the right as you turn off down to the harbour (sri, cannot remember its name)

The Kiyi opposite the exotic hotel is good.

It looks like a fish restaurant but they also serve nice meat dishes too. Prices are not too steep either.

The 'pub' is not the only aspect to food at the Majestic Beach, the main restaurant in the hotel is not the best either. Its a bit like British pub grub even in the restaurant. And Efes is a punitive 8ytl !! HTH

Bogaztepe is just outside Bogaz, the others are a little more distant. My maps must be a little more current.

If nothing else, we have managed to raise the profile of Bogaz! You must pop in if you are this way.

Bogaz is the full name. (The one near Famagusta)

Unfortunatly there is more than 1.

Google earth, current maps and deeds for that area show it as just Bogaz. The other towns/villages mentioned are near Bogaz but not Bogaz itself.

I have heard a lot of positives about a restaurant called 'Moon Over The Water'

Is it really as good as people say? I will be over with my better half at the end of April and feel that I should try it for myself.Does anyone know whether it will be necessary to book in advance

Also can you recommend any other restaurants in the Bogaz/Iskele vicinity

that compare?

We quite like The Garden restaurant, nice ambience & home grown veg.

Linda is veggie and they alway ensure there is a proper vegetarian dish, other than the usual fare.

Pipie, As you drive through main old gate into Famagusta turn immediate right and about 200 yards on the left, opposite the old wall is a licenced Turkish styled cafe, probably untouched since 1974 and with the same owner since I first went there 10 years ago (last there 4 months ago) which specialises in Kleftiko. Very rustic, basic, clean, good salads and excellent value. On a hot day sit outside with old walled view.

The Moon OK but not worth the money?

"Salimos " On the Salamis Road first recht after Salamis Conti Hotel coming from direction Bogaz .Road into Yeni Bogazici ca 500 meter past the Zema SM ,we paid 75 TL for 3 persons including the best brandy 31er ( bottle ) price ok food was good too. or the new Indian across from Salamis Conti opened 4 weeks back worth a try used to be "Melows" which was a shame when it closed down.

Monks ok ,eye catching cocktail names maybe the guy go,s a wee bit to far with them?

food ok if you want a snack more of a cocktail place..

Also the village "Yeni Bogazici has a few good Restaurants..

If you are inerested in traditional Turkish Cypriot cuisine you should try "Minder" just behind Lemar of Famagusta.

There is a very smart Restaurant which was very nice . You drive right through Famagusta , on your left there is a house surrounded by the sea go past and keep to the left and the restaurant is a little way up that road on your left , but you park opposite on a rough car park . I am sorry i have been there twice , but for the life of me , i can't remember the name , but i'm sure Ismet will know

Good luck , Simbas

If you want proper Turkish cuisine at a very reasonable price and excellent service, you can try the Kocca Restaurant which is on the right as you enter the village of Yesilkoy, about 20-25 minutes from Bogaz on the Karpaz road. Another one is the Sahil Yolu Restaurant, next door to the KPet garage in Bogaz. Another good one is the Hilltop Restaurant in Safa Koy. Try one of Apo's peppered steaks or a mixed omelette, only 6tl and an Efes is 4tl. A new Indian Restaurant, Al Shareen, on the right going towards Salamis from Bogaz, has just opened and this is also very good.Afiyet Olsun.

Msg. 38

Simbas,

I think you are referring to HURMA restuarant just before the Palm Beach Hotel. If that is the case, its a very long story but the short of it is that it is demolished. The new owners (the Rock Hotel of Girne) can't build on it because of a court dispute and an injunction.

Simbas,

you are a jinx!!

not long before you will be over in Cyprus, agreed the Sunday roast in MOW is 2nd to none. The rib of beef melts in your mouth and the veg is scrumptious.

not a lot of room left for the sweet.
