I'm pretty familar with Girne and Essentepe areas and I note most developments mentioned in forums on the website are in those areas, however I note an increase in threads concerning Bafra/Bogas region and just wondered who are my fellow members buying or bought in the area.

Hi Pilgrim,

Although I am new to the Forum,I gather so far, that both yourself and Simbas

have bought in the Iskele area.I love the East Coast, even though our first two holidays back in 2002 & 2004 were spent at Riverside holiday village,Alsancek.

Lots going on over that side, but apartments for our price range were smaller than the one in Bogaz.

I love driving to the Karpaz and stopping for an icecream at Deks.

Where are your favourite places? Terri

hi guys

no probs pilgrim, the reason why i favour the east side which i forget to mention aswell is because most of all my family are from there aswell, but like i said i do spend time in girne but most of my time is spent in the famagusta region

to tell you guys the truth i would not want this region to turn out like girne built up, every bar or resturant full of expats serving english breakfasts and sunday dinners and in turn having prices increase, ive seen this happen to marmaris where they cater soley for expats and it loses it charm

regards

ukturk

p.s im not saying all expats try and turn something or somewhere englishified so please dont get the wrong impression

Well said Erkan,

Linda and myself are looking forward to living as much the Cyprus way as possible. We have just started Turkish language tuition and will make sure we have the basic's to get us going.

I have worked and travelled abroad when I was young and some of the ex-pats seem to get the attitude they are the domianant populus. Hope this does not happen in the bogaz area as it will be lovely to get on with one and all. Hope all our neighbours on the othello complex will all get along nicely as well.

when we stayed in Kapparis a couple of years ago we had quiet a few union jacks flying from apaprtments etc. Pity this is not done at home!

hi guys

im not saying ex-pats are only english, but im only actually talking about english expats who try and change things and make things 'englishified' and im not saying all of them do this but most of the majority do, here in marmaris there are loads of scots, welsh, irish with some brits who dont do this they try to intergrate in to turkish society and way of life

im not saying its wrong to have a english breakfast or a sunday dinner (i love a sunday dinner with yorkshire pudds and stuffing) but when you see every other resturant is a pie shop, fish and chip shop, or a brit fun pub it gets on my tits because whole reason why ex-pats leave the u.k is to get away from there not to recreate the u.k with a bit of sun!!!!!

and sorry to say this, this is slowly happening to girne, where on the famagusta side this has not happened this is where you see the real north cyprus, before anyone has a moan i love girne too!!!! LOL long live north cyprus and lets hope tourisim dont spoil this lovley country with karakoe fun pubs with tina turner and michael jackson impersantors and the sticky vicky show like in spain!!!!!

regards to all

Well said Uturk. That's one of the main reasons we bought within an established village. We wanted to integrate as much as possible and live "like the locals". We tend to use local people for doing odd jobs as we've found them to not only work harder than ex-pats but also they don't charge an inflated price for their work, unlike the "Foreigners".

Hi Ukturk,

That's why I love the East side, not so commercialised, but it does need a few more bars !!

Haven't seen Michael Jackson yet,but did see Elvis in Kathy's Bar down at Bogaz Harbour about 18mths ago.

I love Turkish food, but haven't found anywhere around my area that does Dolmades yet.

Can anyone recommend a good Turkish restaurant in the Famagusta to Bogaz area please. Thanks Terri

hi terri

before i even start mate you have deeply offended me!!!!! lol

the real name for the food you like is DOLMA the word you said is what greeks call our dish!!!!! lol

id say one of the best turkish resturants has to be the big resturant at the big roundabout when you come in to famagusta with the mosque on the left and the resturant is opposite on the right, i have forgotton the name of it mate but this resturant serves everything from kebabs to turksih home cooked food including DOLMA'S

regards

ukturk

p.s there are quite a few bars directly opposite the college and all the hotels along the salamis road will alow you to drink in their bars

Sorry Ukturk,

I thought they were called Dolmas but I talked myself out of it thinking they were the little buses that run up and down.Just remembered that they are dolmush (can't spell). I'll try that restaurant near the roundabout when we come out in May.

I have been to the Garden Restaurant a few times Pilgrim, the food is lovely.

Thanks both

Re message 15

UkTurk

I agree, I do hope that the country does not get much ex-patitude, another good reason why we bought there.

Whilst I am happy to mix my fellow countryman/woman I do not want it be totally exclusive.

As for food, love local dishes, but occasionally the need for Sunday lunch (same goes for bacon butties) overtakes me, after all you can take the girl out of England but not England out of the girl!!

Terri, we are over Girne way, Esentepe in fact so tend to shop in our local village shops for about 85% of our things. If looking for something specific we use Supreme on the main road at Catalkoy.

ukturk, I agree with everything you said, on top of that, when they buy fish and chips and it doesn't compare to UK style then its whinging time.

If you want fish and chips, bacon and eggs, Daddies sauce..

You wont find it in Cyprus, so save yourself a lot of trouble and Don't come..

We do have great meze's though.
