Yesterday was the 20th anniversary of the world wide web. (www) The term was first coined by Brit, Tim Berners- Lee though the first email had been sent much earlier in 1971. Can you imagine being without it today? Where will this technology be in say another 20 years? Has it been good, bad or indifferent in it's use re responsibilties to society? Regards Joseph

I never thought it was 20 years old. Where would we be without it? Back in the dark ages I guess Joking aside, we couldn't live without it could we? It's both frightening and exiting as to how it will develop over the next 20 years, I hope I'm around to see it develop. To think that I'm writing this on my iPhone now, in 20 years time I dont suppose well even have to type messages, it'll be a voice activated instruction without the use of a computer- perhaps just a device you leave in your ear. I can't wait to see what happens. Good post Joseph.

Hi No1... Call me mad but I am sure half the things we saw on Star Trek with Captain James T. Kirk and crew that back then we all thought of as sci-fi are now taken for granted. Remember the contactors... small black telephones they flicked the lid, pressed a button and phoned someone... sounds like your iPhone to me P.S. I loved star-trek... so please any trekkers out there I am not taking the mick Regards Joseph

It hasen't really been mainstream since 1996 or so, but it was on the go at colleges and universities long before that. I remember using "electronic mail" as a student in 1986-87, but it was purely internal. I'm actually surprised it took so long to go global.

The most frightening thing about all this is that almost everything is done over the Internet now, banking, flight bookings, etc etc etc. What are the chances of say a group of hackers getting together and bringing a country down?
