It really puts things into perspective, a TC soldier in the British army was one of two men killed by IRA extremists in Northern Ireland this week, 21 year old Cengiz Azimkar out thoughts are with your family and friends at this sad time, our thoughts also go to the other soldier Mark Quimsey's family as well

Our thoughts are with anyone killed or injured,I dont think the people of N.IRELAND are interested if the soldier had TC parents or if the pizza man was Polish. For them these victims are an addition to a long list of victims of many races and creeds that have been mourned for over the years .The shock is made greater by the fact that the people in NI had thought such atrocities had been left behind.

Re Mmm msg 2

I don't think Mm is "bi-partisanising" the tragedy, I read his post as the opposite.. careful..if we start down this route where we will finsih?

Mmm knowing your knowledge re the current talks etc... do you think they are aware of what has happened in NIreland and what are ,if any, lessons to be learnt after forty years of peace on Cyprus.?

Lazydays re msg 1

If this young man is from NCyprus, you know his name etc, why not ask Izzet to send a card of condolence/bouquet to his family on behalf of all of us @ Cyprus44?

re msg 5,

"I don't think Mm is "bi-partisanising" the tragedy"

I wasn't - of course, but thanks for confirming it..

N.I didn't have the massive ethnic cleansing that CY endured so recently.. but the "problem" has festered longer..

I see similarities -in that peace can be achieved - and that Politically / Ethnically polarised Politicians can work together..

I certainly wouldn't call a military solution ( TR's "peace movement") "peace" following massive ethnic cleaning, deaths, and importation of third party nationals a lasting "solution" - especially when the UN were mandated - as agreed by Greece and Turkey to be the peace-keepers.

I think both leaders have a choice - a bit like David Trimble.. do they do what is unpopular Politically / electorily(sp?) in the short-term - and possibly commit "personal electoral suicide" - for the greater good of the people....

I've yet to see an elected Cypriot Politician do what's "right" rather than try to get in / stay i

Do you think that there is a possibility that that is happening now in that I read one of the leaders has said no "solution" this time round then I retire?

And would any new leader from either side then hesitate to agree as such because (presuming younger) he has an eye on his political future and not the people as a whole ie the common good?
