Just been talking to a friend on the phone. He had been talking to a TC who had just retired back to NC from Australia, bringing his old Merc with him. He was at the import tax office sorting out the import tax on it and they demanded $28,000! Over £14,000! He phoned his friends back in Australia and immediately began making plans to return and take the car with him. That was the straw that broke the cames back. He had tears in his eyes apparently. He has also been conned re an apartment and his dream to retire and die in NC had evaporated. He couldn't believe the way things in TRNC had gone. Allegedly, the police are now targeting expats and breaking into garages to seize UK registered cars. The compound is full of such cars which are sold off at auction. If not sold at the first auction, another one is held for selected buyers. I leave the legality of that to your imagination.
