In the 10th assembly of the Democratic Party in South Cyprus the son of ex- leader Papadopoulos Nicholas Papadopoulos has been elected as the vise president of the Democratic Party, DIKO

According to the Greek Cypriot press at the 10th assembly of the DIKO party which is known as the party of Papadopoulos Marios Karoyan has been elected as the president and the vise presidency and secretary general positions have been filled with pro-Papadopoulos persons.

The fact that pro-Karoyan candidates lost the same positions above has been evaluated as the depiction of return to the old traditional hard line in the Cyprus issue.

Greek Cypriot press pointed out that the elected persons were against the views of Greek Leader Christofias in the process of the Cyprus problem since they support the views of Papadopoulos.

Yep I know but it is funny how these hard line parties keep coming to the forefront again. It is a forgone conclusion that in the TRNC the UBP is going to win the next election, who knows what will happen in the ROC. When are the next elections?

Hi AJ re msg 3 ,

The presidential Election happened a year ago - so "Commie Jim" has 4 years left in power..

Parliamentary elections - to be honest I'm not sure. :(

What does it matter if there is a referendum on a settlement ?

I know that referendums have been spoken about for both sides but will they happen?

No replies to that then Erolz, perhaps certain people do not like the implications.

Dear AJ, re msg 8

1/ Contrary to popular belief.. MM has a real good life away from the keyboard.. and enjoyed a great St Paddy's night, and tended to me poor Ma, today... She unexpectedly had to have a minor op.. but is recovering..

Dear ErolZ

2/ DIKO are inded the third party and "kingmakers"... but when it comes to "the talks" DISY and AKEL are more in tune with each other..

as ever in CY politics.. they would rather hold on to some small role in govt - FAR less than before.. than not a all..

MM you said DIKO were not 'in power'. I was just trying to be clear about that point. They are a member party of the ruling coalition government in the RoC.

Dear ErolZ re msg 10

OK, to clarify !.. by "power" lost - they no longer hold the Presidency and many influential cabinet positions.

They can't "influence" AKEL like before..
