I understand that Turkey has made available to the TRNC Government a loan of some 500ml T/L

Anyone have thoughts on this

A loan suggests someone expects to be paid back. Surely this is another handout from the ever-faithful Turkish taxpayer.

The EU has/is being injecting money in to the TRNC for infrastructure. Is this to balance out for what the GC side receive?

No. this is nothing to do with the EU. this is an additional facilty that Turkey has made available to the TRNC

Hello Spook,

I can assure everyone that the loan has absolutely nothing to do with keeping an awful lot of people employed in 'running' the TRNC or for pensions....

Hector, of course you are correct, in the same way that EU cash has not been

'disappearing', despite the presence of EU Monitors.

the loan is available to all small and large companies (workshops) etc... you can apply but whether you will get it is a different matter my friend applied for it but he did not get the loan but he did meet all the requirements they asked for it just goes to show they have already decided who will get the loan , so if you do decide to apply for it do not hold your breath take care

Presumaby the TRNC was given money previously, now money has been handed out in the form of a loan.

I know that Turkey has borrowed money from IMF which they will pay interest on, so naturally they may be asking the TRNC to do the same. It could also have something to with being more accountable, or they anticipate reunification and would expect both the TRNC and the ROC to pay it back.
