remove the food and clean with soapy water then spray with "detox" leave for a few hours wipe over and repeat - this should do the trick

i'd open the windows too and go heavy on the air freshener.

I don't know whether you live in the TRNC or just visit every now and again if you don't live in the TRNC it is probably best not to leave food in a freezer as the electricity supply cannot be relied on.

The most important thing to do is after cleaning the fridge/freezer is to make sure all of the seals around the doors are meticulously clean as they are harbours of germs and other nasty things.

After giving the fridge the best clean of it life with very hot soapy water, you should do what sienna suggests as the onion absorbs the odour. Next to the onion place slices of lemon as that should counteract the smell of the onion. Best of luck.

And next to the lemon place slices of garlic as that should counteract the smell of everything.

anyone else during powercuts have had the electric meter trip up, its happened once last summer during heavy lightening which is expected considering the lightening was very close, however it never tripped during power cuts while the villa was occupied between may and nov 08

dont waste your onions.fry up some sausages, not the one's that may be in the freezer, and make some mashed potatoes then fry your onions, and a little bit of gravy, delicious. oh and wash out the freezer with bicarbonate of soda and that will get rid of the smell, and clean out the freezer at the same time

I am amazed that nobody has mentioned charcoal. Break charcoal into small pieces, put them into a small tray and place it in the fridge with the doors open. It really works.

Basheer,

If there is a sudden change in voltag just before the power is cut off, it may trip the breaker but this must be very rare. If it happens often you must get it checked. I hope your electrician has not fitted a very sensitive trip for you. It should not be less than 300 ma. This figure is written on the breaker itself. It is worth checking this to start with.

Pour petrol all around the apartment but keep the freezer firmly closed.

Open the front door and throw a lighted wad of paper inside, wait until the flames have died down and then open the freezer door.

You won't notice the smell of rotting food at all.

During last months thunderstorms my main RCCD tripped each time there was a "close" lightning strike. I suspect this has more to do with the transmission lines than my house electrics. Elko?
