Hi dickey mint

We found it never used to be just the clothes that were affected it was also the food in the cupboards, washing powder etc so we bought loads of the felt stick on circles (about the size of a sixpence piece) which are used for the bottom of chairs and attached them to all of the doors and drawers both in the bedrooms and kitchen, in fact all internal cupboards.

We used to leave our clothes in clothes bags hanging in the wardrobes.

Goodness, I feel really old especially as I remember silver thru'penny pieces and farthings!

To put it into decimal terms a sixpence was about the size of a 1p (or was that the shilling) and a 2p was the size of a florin. Suppose the half crown was the same size as a 50p piece but was round. Then of course there was the five bob coin which was double the size of the half crown, but this was only normally issued during memorable occasions ie. Coronation, Winston Churchill's death, Queen's Jubilee.

Ah it takes me back.

Dont remember the silver thru'penny pieces (how about you Simbas). However I do remember the old thru'penny bit, I broke my tooth on one in the X-mas pudding.

Yep I certainly remember them and the fact that you could get 4 farthings to a penny. Still got a collection of coins from my childhood (even got a couple of 2 bob bits which are silver). Got a ten bob note and pound note. I remember I used to get a 10 bob note from my grandparents for my birthday. It used to buy a lot of sweets!

Try LIDAL they sell plastic vac seal bags (vac cleaner sucks air out) approx £2 for pack of 3 various sizes available we pack all clothing - bedding - etc and leave lying on bed , leave all cupboards and drawers open , your best bet for absorbing damp is Silica Gel Crystals these will absorb moisture , if you have a neighbour who can open a few windows weekly this perhaps the best method it will allow an air change in the room.

l too remember all of the above mentioned coins, and as for green shield stamps, l still have a silver charm bracelet which my other half got for me, l remember choosing it from their catalogue it came with two charms, it is now a bit too bulky with too many charms but every one has a special meaning and my grand-daughter is fascinated by them all. Oh the good old days.

Have a good day from Lesley

Fitted two 4" wall fans connected to electrical timers, they come on twice a week when we are not there, no more problems and a lot less hassel when lleaving.

Yes the crystals are very good. We used them when the house was first built to help it dry out a bit. Amazed at the amount of water it collected.

Do you leave your electric on when away for months at a time? Or turn the power off and leave the fridge door open?

What is the best way?

Thanks in advance.
