Can anyone recommend a good Turkish cookery book, preferably with pictures. I have looked at the Amazon site but I am confused and not sure which one to get!
Thank you

hi ukturk
You really are a wonder - wonder what other household tips you might have?
Gail - I've borrowed a copy of 'Turkish Cookery' by İnci Kut from a friend - which is really similar to whats on the website - ISBN 975-479-100-7.

Hi Guys
So glad to see other people trying wonderful Turkish dishes out - I now make my own houmos and love this way of eating lots of tasty little dishes instead of boring old meat and two veg - I am even converting hubby. I found a site tha gave me a list of foods produced in TRNC and I am getting so excited at the thought of been ableo buy fresh and delicious produce - never the honey!!! Thank you all for your info.
UKTurk I've looked at your website and will start printing like made!
Wonder of he World, can you please give us tips on cleaning materials - I would like to make up a natural cleaner for general household surfaces, bathrooms etc. I know that lemons are cheap and plentiful - is this part of your magic solution.
My beautiful boy and husband is officially retiring on 1 Feb - only five more days!
Lot of thought

hi milou
the best and cheapest cleaning material you can use is lemon and vineagar mix these two up and you will be amased, make sure when cleaning chrome and glass use newspaper, and the best product to use on tiles, toilets and very stubborn marks is to use 'porcoz' when you do use this stuff make sure you wear gloves because it contains acid and you can buy this in any local supermarket
hope this helps

hi milou , i too make my own houmos and tzisiki, also make a mean kleftico even if i do say myself , and have tried several different recipes sucessfully , but my turkish bread avoids me for some reason , so i cheat and buy it in hemel hemstead . they only have 1 delivery a week , on a fri morning , so i make sure i'm there early as it goes quite quickly , but its about the best i have ever tried.

I have recipe for mercemik corbasi ( lentil soup) if you want from Turkish
cookery book bought in Istanbul years ago. I often cook Turkish recipes & my
friend married to Cypriot cooks special Cypriot dishes which are delicious, so am learning from her also.

Hi Chris, this is the one I have, probably many versions & will also check out
Ukturk's website
Kirmizi Mercimek Corbasi (Red Lentil Soup)
1 tea cup red lentils
1 litre meat broth
2 soup spoons butter
1/2 soup spoon salt
2 onions
1 soup spoon of tomato paste or 2 chopped tomatoes
Cut the onions fine & brown in the butter. (I use olive oil) Wash the lentils
then add them to the broth with salt, tomato sauce or chopped tomatoes. Cook approximatel 30 minutes. Serve with small pieces fried in butter.
Note: After soup is cooked you can add some finely chopped parsely. Some chefs serve this soup after blending it in electric mixer, or passing it through food mill & adding some flour. (They also use mint a lot in soups & it's tasty)
